Introduction: I do this for pleasure, not for profit. My price is generally significantly lower simply because I find this work fun and that is why I do it. Make no mistake, I know what I'm doing; I was an executive editor for a law school publication. Let me tell you why I pursue this work. Writing matters, whether it is good writing, average writing or bad writing; it matters. I am obsessed with exceptional writing. I am an attorney and have spent a career studying, dissecting and using writing as a tool to persuade. I approach all projects--speeches, books, dissertations, briefs or a simple letter--with the same excitement. When I'm not writing or editing, I read from the very best writers and instructors for pleasure and growth. While I enjoy working on my own writing, nothing satisfies me more than helping others express themselves. I provide copy and line editing services (Chicago, APA or MLA), developmental editing, ghost writing and proofreading. I typically quote a flat fee rather than hourly rate, and I am very competitively priced. I keep working until you are satisfied. The fee will not change. Many friends, colleagues and family have asked me to assist with their writing projects: cover letters, resumes, correspondence, school papers, legislation, legal writing (I'm a full-time attorney) and fiction. I always say yes. I obsess over each word. I observe the cadence, grace, style and content, looking for the most moving, persuasive phrases, sentences and paragraphs to create prose that will pop. I will help you stand out, and that is what I enjoy about the work I do--writing the sentence that sounds like silk feels or the paragraph that grabs your attention and compels you to read on.

I was applying for a highly competitive internship in the U.S. Senate and Geoff helped me to polish up my resume and write a cover letter. Not only did he help me to significantly improve my application, he also gave me invaluable practice in articulating my strengths and experiences which I have carried into interviews and applications since. As a plus I got that internship, in no small part because of his help. I still look back at that cover letter as a gold standard to work off of for new applications.

Geoff was awesome to work with! As talented and intelligent as he is, he had no problem helping me with my small writing project. He listened to my vision, reviewed previous drafts I had written, and considered my many updates and feedback throughout the entire process. The end result was a very thoughtful, yet concise, and persuasive master piece. I highly recommend him for projects of all sizes. You will not be disappointed. Thank you!

Geoffrey did a super job in doing a final edit in looking at my Sci-Fi/Fantasy novel. I ran into some personal issues which has prolong my being able to read through his edit and he has been so understanding in waiting for me to get finished. I would highly recommend those looking editing services to give him a call.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I do not have standard pricing. I base my cost on the project alone. But because I do this for fun rather than for my core income, I am able to keep my prices very low.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I will ask questions--a lot of questions. I need to know what they want to accomplish with their writing. If it is a speech, I want to know all about the audience, the subject matter and the customer; I want to create a voice that is authentic to the customer, not to me. If it's a resume or cover letter, I want to know about the job they want to get, the work and experience they have, and the voice they want to convey. I want to know if the customer wants editing only, or editorial insights as well. Ultimately, I want to know how I can satisfy the customer's needs, at a fair price.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a B.S. in sociology from Brigham Young University and a law degree from the J. Reuben Clark Law School (Brigham Young University). During law school, I served a the executive editor for the Journal of Education and Law. I have practiced law for over 13 years, and have spent much of that time writing and editing.
