Spaces to be renovated
Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: Interior design can be intimidating to the uninitiated. We seek to make the process easy, seamless and hassle-free, handling all the details and involving you as much or as little as you’d like, so you can focus on what’s most important to you. Our approach centers on clear communication, so that we know exactly what you want, and you get a space you love—on time and on budget. At Form + Field, we create thoughtful, purposeful spaces that enhance your daily life. Our holistic approach incorporates all five senses and integrates interiors with art, architecture, and the environment. We are eclectic modernists who respect history, culture, and context, and hold form and function as equally important. Christine studied architecture at MIT, where she gained broad experience in design and the physics of our built environment. After a successful 10 year career in tech, Christine set her sights back on her true passion of architecture and interior design. Her rigorous experience in the corporate and startup worlds gave her fierce communication, project management, and execution skills - a rare skill set to find in creatives. Her past also uniquely positions her to understand the lifestyle and needs of San Francisco Bay Area and urban professionals. She is also an an Allied ASID (American Society of Interior Designers) member, and holds BS degrees in Architecture and Mechanical Engineering from MIT, and an MBA from UC Berkeley. Interior design can transform how one lives for the better. People spend most of their days indoors, and it is a privilege to work with clients to provide a space that fulfills their needs, wants, and desires.

We hired Christine at Form + Field to present several options for our kitchen layout. Our kitchen is not perfectly rectangular and has four different doors/entry points so coming up with designs that provide good flow, storage, and seating is not an easy endeavor! We had previously hired another architect when we first moved into our home but didn't love his final ideas. As a result, we put off the kitchen renovation project as my husband and I were stumped on the layout. That is, until Christine came to the rescue! She came to measure the space, understand our needs, and then within days had some draft layouts for us to review and iterate on. After some prompt back-and-forth, we were able to land on a great design that met all of our wishes. Highly recommend Christine to others seeking a professional, efficient, detail oriented, and creative designer/architect!

Christine was a joy to work with on our apt's interior design. She's collaborative, resourceful, detail-oriented, and highly organized. Across different timezones, Christine communicated and listened well, staying in-tune with our needs (and quickly responding to new ones as they arose) while keeping our project on-task. In her work, she also managed to blend the asthetics of everyone in the household, creating a final result that we all love.

I worked with Christine to redesign a property in Santa Cruz. She had a methodical approach to helping translate my goals into an comfortable and beautiful design. I'm already working with Christine on another project! [Disclosure: I am Christine's husband]

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

We typically set a flat fee for your project so that there are no surprises!

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

1/ DISCOVERY We begin with an hour-long in-person meeting in your space to learn about you: your lifestyle, how you want to feel in your home, your personal values and any other needs and wants for the project. Then we get into specifics, budget, timing, and style and taste preferences. If available, we’ll gather existing floor plans in this phase. 2/ PROJECT EVALUATION + PROPOSAL Based on what we learn in the discovery, we create a project proposal that covers the scope of work, fees, timeframe and some working principles. Depending on your needs, we can offer proposals that incentivize timely approvals and completion, as staying within the project timeline is typically a major concern for clients. Proposals are negotiable, and our goal is to create an arrangement that is comfortable, realistic, and successful. 3/ CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT After you approve the proposal, we dig further into the details of your project. We gather your preferences for details such as light levels, seat and table heights, and other specifics. If your project includes remodeling, we’ll also gather information and measurements here for regulatory and permitting requirements. If you have ideas and style inputs, we'll gladly incorporate those. If not, we're more than happy to supply the creative juju. Next, we share space planning and concept boards to show you the possibilities, and help shape the direction of the project. Your feedback here helps us create something that is just what you were looking for—even if you didn’t know it! 4/ DESIGN DEVELOPMENT Upon deciding the direction of the space plans and concept boards, the iteration begins on the design details for construction, and the selection of fixtures, furnishings, decor, and art. We’ll get your approval on all selections so there are no surprises down the line, usually during an in-person meeting so we can discuss any questions or tradeoffs. You'll know exactly what your space will look like at the end of this phase. 5/ SPECIFICATION + PROCUREMENT + PROJECT MANAGEMENT When the design is finalized, we’ll document everything for purchasing and construction. We work closely with vendors and contractors to obtain bids, quotes, and timelines. We're on-site to ensure quality and adherence to the vision. 6/ INSTALLATION + STYLING The final step of your project includes deliveries, and installation of furniture, fixtures and art. The last step of styling, where we make final adjustments and touches, ensures that the vision for your space is fully realized and perfectly you. We also take high-quality photos to show the before-and-after. +/ BEYOND After a project is completed, we're still here for you! If there’s anything that’s not quite right, we’ll get it sorted. We’d love to hear your experiences, questions, or concerns at any time.
