Hired on Thumbtack

We attempted to hire Scott on the 8th of February, a Wednesday. In order to accommodate Scott's busy schedule, on the 8th, we agreed to have him come paint our kitchen on the 9th. Late on the 8th, my wife spent almost 6 hours cleaning out all of the cabinets, taking down all the wall hangings, and moving everything out of the kitchen into our living room. We didn't pick this date because it was convenient for us - we picked it because it seemed to help Scott with his schedule. The morning of the 9th, just 40 minutes before he was scheduled to arrive, he texted us and told us he was sick, and couldn't make it. He then asked to push the schedule out until the following Monday. This made no sense - why on a Thursday morning would you push out until Monday? I called Scott and received some lame explanations about his inability to work over the weekend, explanations which were completely inconsistent with what he'd told us the day before. Now we're stuck with no painter, and all of our kitchen is stacked inside our living room. We're now faced with the prospect of trying to hire somebody else while living with the mess, or moving it all back into the kitchen, knowing full-well we'll have to redo it again sometime soon. For all I know, Scott's painting is an inspiration to the world, but we never found out because he doesn't keep his commitments.
Kompan Home Improvements's reply
I am sorry you feel this way. I did call to tell you I could not make it due to sickness as I do good work and stand by my work therefore if I am not in proper shape to complete the job I will not start. As for my "lame excuse" I had told you this was a 2 day job with possible carryover for a couple of hours on a 3rd day. My children need to be watched and not left alone on weekends baby sitting arrangements were made for a couple of hours on the weekends and could not be extended due to my babysitter: therefore I suggested starting on the following Monday to properly complete the job.

After having another contractor not show up, Scott saved the day and came right out. Scott primed, painted our family room, all the trim, and a door. Scott was professional, friendly disposition, and did a great job!

Scott came and finished the drywall in our basement. He exceeded the expectations we had, and we will be hiring him to do more projects in our house as a result. Very highly recommended.
