Introduction: I have a bachelor's degree in flute performance from the University of North Texas and a master's degree in classical flute from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. I have 6 years of experience in teaching flutists, from kids to adults. I recently had the honor of performing Christopher Tin's "The Drop that Contained the Sea" with the Angel City Chorale in Los Angeles. The experience was magical, transforming and unforgettable. I have basked in the musical brilliance of Kelly DeSarla performing flute on multiple occasions -- on theater stages, in big concert halls, at exclusive private parties, and in churches at weddings. One of my favorites was hearing her play in the orchestra for the enchanting phenomenon called "The Drop That Contained The Sea" by Christopher Tin, with the Angel City Chorale. I have also heard her play lush and complex jazz, traditional Irish folk music, and 1940s standards. In her spare time, Kelly is also the musical director for her own chamber music trio. So not only does she have a Masters degree in Classical Flute, she also has a wide range of experience performing different genres of music. Her performances are both technically proficient and also deeply soulful and expressive. In addition to being an accomplished musician, Kelly is also a gifted actor who has been performing for decades, and she is able to translate the emotional journey of any piece of music into the glorious sound that soars from her flute. Kelly coached my trio ensemble and really helped us. The tips she gave us improved our communication, our intonation, our rhythm and our balance. She shared so many great insights and that helped our group to sound much more musical and cohesive.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
$40 for a 30 min lesson - $50 for a 45 min lesson - $60 for a 60 min lesson. Get a discount by paying a month in advance: $140 for four 30 min lessons, $180 for four 45 min lessons and $220 for four 60 min lessons.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Whenever possible, I prefer to have a one on one meeting either by phone, Skype or in person to discuss goals and expectations before beginning a course of study. This also gives us both a chance to meet each other and make sure we both feel comfortable.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
In addition to earning a Bachelor's Degree in Music Performance from the University of North Texas (which is one of the best music schools in the country, especially for Jazz) where I trained under Dr. Mary Karen Clardy, and a Master's Degree from Northwestern State University (Louisiana), where I studied under Dr. Dennette McDermott, I have also studied overseas at The Janacek Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts in Brno, Czech Republic with Arnost Bourek, and with Marzio Conti in Lucca, Italy. I have studied with many master teachers over the years including then principal of the New York Philharmonic, Julius Baker, "the man with the golden flute" James Galway, and Wafrid Kujala, then Piccoloist of the Chicago Symphony. I use all these varied approaches to find the tools to suit each individual student's needs.
