Kim gave me and my young teenage daughter a private makeup lesson. She came equipped with literally a suitcase of supplies - brushes, different kinds of makeup, colors, etc. She also brought us some notes that included techniques to acheive a few different looks, from the basic 5 minute face, to more dramatic evening looks, as well as recommendations for products. She tailored my daughter's lesson so that it was age appropriate for her. Kim is very knowledgeable and can do everything from basic, "clean" looks, to more costume-y, Cirque du Soleil type effects (her website is very cool!). She recommends products based on their quality at every price point, and even prefers the quality of certain drugstore brands, which is great to know. Kim is also super sweet, approachable, and made us both feel very comfortable. We really enjoyed our mother-daughter lesson with her!

Kim spent several hours with me and a friend of mine discussing make-up and teaching each of us which products would work best for us and how to apply. It was a wonderful experience and we both feel much better about wearing cosmetics.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to get to know my clients' likes/dislikes in makeup style, career path, overall comfort level and knowledge of makeup. Once I've finished the application I ask my client if there is anything they would like to change or do differently so that they are completely satisfied. Often I ask via email for a picture of themselves in makeup and also examples of what they would like to achieve in their makeup look.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a background in art and sculpture, fashion design and have studied HD makeup application, airbrush makeup application, special effects and injury simulation. I keep up to date with new products and new techniques and attend demos and workshops in New York.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I've always played with makeup since I was 14 living in Europe; I began a career in makeup in 1993 working as a manager at the first Prescriptive's counter in Tyson's Corner.
