Introduction: In most states, including Pennsylvania, mold assessment and remediation are not licensed. This allows anyone to enter the field without even having a basic knowledge of sampling techniques, mold remediation practices and standards, or home ventilation experience. Without advanced knowledge in these areas, the chance of a successful remediation are slim at best. Black Forest Mold is state licensed by one of the states that does licensing for mold assessment and remediation. Our licenses are mold assessor MRSA 252 and mold remediator MRSR 241. In order to receive a state license we were required to take state approved courses, Pass a state proctored examination, and take continuing education credits. Additionally we have a working knowledge of all building trades and possess a Pennsylvania General Contractors license (PA 009412). When people call us they are sometimes very concerned about the physical effects mold will have on their families. Other common concerns include the cost to remediate the mold and any reconstruction that may be needed. At Black Forest Mold, we will take the time to explain in detail what we propose doing and the rationale behind our work. It is of utmost importance to correct the underlying moisture problem in order to prevent the problem from reoccurring. This is where our experience and training place us above our competition. I typically don't write reviews, however, Black Forest Mold did an outstanding job with the mold in my basement. I was really concerned about the mold because my basement is finished and it is used for entertaining. The mold is gone and my fears have vanished! I particularly liked that the mold team was professional and performed laboratory testing before and after. If I ever get mold again, I would not hesitate to call this company.

Black Forest Mold explained step by step how mold grows and why. They inspected my home and found where the water intrusion was coming from. Black Forest Mold provided a detailed written proposal to remediate the mold and how to repair where the water intrusion was. They put my fears at rest. I am extremely pleased that I chose them. What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Each remediation project is unique so the exact cost can only be determined after an inspection. We can however give a rough estimate over the phone if the customer can give us some basic information about the home and the problem. Mold testing costs are a fixed price of $295.00 for a series of four tests. The laboratory report and an explanation of the report are sent to the customer. If needed a proposal for remediation is also included.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We begin with a phone call to discuss specifics of the mold intrusion. The following needs to be determined: mold location, extent of the mold, how to access the location of the mold, relevancy of mold testing, occupants experiencing mold symptoms, and allergies to mold, as well as other questions that may be applicable to your situation. We discuss the possible causes of the mold intrusion, which may be due to leaks, condensation, bathroom exhaust vents, and attic ventilation. If the customer would like to proceed, we agree on a date and time to inspect the home so we can develop a mold remediation proposal with an exact price.
