FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
It depends on the project. The main thing is to listen and then offer suggestions that still support the client's vision. For example, I once made a music video where the singer was adamant on having Mtv-style credits at the beginning and end. I told him it didn't need that, but I relented since he really wanted it and it wouldn't divert from the video's tone much. The singer also wanted quick cuts of store fronts in the video. I told him slow pans with dissolves would better complement the mood of the song. I felt strongly about this, but I gave him an choice. I shot the store fronts with and without movement and then edited them my way. I asked him to watch the video and I'd change it to his style if he didn't like it. Once he saw it, he was pleasantly surprised and agreed my way was better. However, had he disagreed, I would have done it his way. It's about finding a balance between a client's ideas and mine, yet ultimately allowing them to have the final say so for their project.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I took a video production class in high school and then made short films on my own. I studied film theory at the University of Texas for a year and have worked on different types of projects throughout the years as a way to improve my skills.
