Introduction: Listed below are distinctions of the Club Z! Program, which offer insight as to how we are different from the competition and able to customize service to the student as a whole. 1. TUTORING IS IN YOUR HOME! a. Parents avoid the hassle of traveling to the tutoring site. b. Students receive one-on-one attention without the distractions of a group/classroom setting. (Great if the parent says the child is highly distractible or has ADD/ADHD) c. Parents have an opportunity to meet with the tutor after every session to discuss areas of improvement as well as areas in need of remediation. d. Parents are REQUIRED to be at home during each session, therefore parents have a chance to eavesdrop on the tutoring and learn how to reinforce the skills in the time between tutoring sessions. 2. SAME TUTOR, EVERY TIME The same tutor will teach the student every time, so the rapport that develops between a student and a teacher is never disrupted. A tutor will be a more effective teacher upon understanding the personality, interests, and learning style of the student. When the student is seen as a whole, both learning and self- esteem flourish. 3. TUTOR PLAYS THE ROLE OF A COACH Bringing in a neutral, encouraging third party can often restart a fresh flow of learning. It is analogous to a child resisting his father’s advice on how to swing a baseball bat, but then eagerly following orders when the same advice comes from the baseball team’s coach. Often times, the tutor will become like a coach, mentor, roll-model, naturally enhancing the student’s self-esteem and confidence. Their tutor is seen as an ‘expert’ - their personal academic coach; someone whom they might wish to emulate. 4. EMPHASIS ON STUDY SKILLS Club Z! tutors emphasize the importance of effective study skills as part of any tutoring program. Organization, time management, reading comprehension and note-taking strategies are addressed to lay the foundation for success in all academic areas. 5. PARENTS ARE IN CONTROL Parents control: a. the tutor that is requested – male or female b. the number of tutoring sessions per week c. the days and times of the sessions d. being kept informed of the student’s progress, after each session. 6. SCHOOL-BASED CURRICULUM Rather than introduce an entirely new curriculum to an already overwhelmed, struggling student, Club Z! tutors in the classroom curriculum – utilizing classroom texts, assignments, and materials as the focus of each session. Supplementary material may be provided when necessary and/or requested. 7. FAST RESULTS! Because Club Z! tutors within the existing school curriculum, results are immediate. Tutors and students work together to tackle classroom assignments, upcoming school projects, and prepping for tests. Within only a couple of weeks, teachers, parents, and students alike will notice improvement – often, significant growth!
