Introduction: I am a professional musician, vocal coach and performing artist. I am a multi-faceted vocalist trained in classical music, but I grew up singing gospel, rock, soul, jazz, pop, R&B, etc. I am also a pop and jazz pianist. This allowed me to cultivate my talents into multiple fields, becoming a producer, composer, songwriter, arranger, vocal/performance coach, and music director. I graduated from the Berklee College of Music in professional music minor in conducting in 2012. I've been working in the music industry professionally for the past 5 years for both major and independent labels. My work provides me with a wide variety of things to do, from being a session singer or player and private instructor or coach, all the way to the creative and creating music for someone or developing talents. Music is my life, and I've spent my life since the age of 2 in becoming very skilled at it. I enjoy sharing my gifts with others hoping to create a better world and inspire, as well as to be inspired continually changing my life for the better.

Courtney was hands down the best vocal coach I have ever had. She pushed me to come out of my comfort zone and taught me how to be a true vocalist. She is an incredible teacher because she's patient but also encourages you to challenge yourself and not be complacent. She literally prepared me for a 60 city tour in less than a month, after having almost no performance experience. Because of Courtney, I was able to have the stamina and skill to complete such an extensive tour. Another thing I LOVE about Courtney is she always made it fun. I looked forward to every lesson. If you don't work with Courtney you're crazy, because she could literally teach someone who has never sung how to be the next Mariah!

Courtney Knott is a phenomenal musician whose talent spans composition, arranging , conducting, singing and playing. Having know her for the last ten years I have watched her growth as a colleague but more importantly , a friend. She is extremely passionate and humble;those may be her best qualities. She makes music come to life whether it is gospel, jazz , rhythm and blues or classical. She is an extremely versatile musician who puts her heart and soul completely into performing and her craft. I'm a singer/ song writer and I took private vocal lessons with Courtney hoping to understand the technique of singing and become a better/ stronger singer. Courtney helped me with finding my range and developing strength and breath support- which was what I needed! She's very knowledgeable and gave me many tips and exercises of how to develop my voice on my own time. Every lesson I had with her I could feel and hear myself growing and making progress! Courtney is also very friendly and patient, she will give you all the attention you seek from a great vocal instructor!

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
With a new student I begin my lessons with a series of vocal warm ups. I find out their range, their voice type, and from that, I know what areas of the voice can be improved. I then discuss what goals the student has and how we can accomplish that goal. Based on what I have learned about their voice and personal goals, I give the student a repertoire of music and artists to listen to, to further their education, understanding and learning experience. I believe in giving a strong foundation in technique to prevent the student from any vocal injury so I always pair the music the student wants to master with a musical selection based in the classical technique. The lessons are very energetic and fun because all in all I want the student to be themselves and discover the artist within. In my lessons we work on song interpretation, stage presence, pocket, rhythm, and breathing exercises amongst many tricks to engage the diaphragm to produce a full healthy sound. I also teach them about vocal health and how the vocal chords work so they have a full understanding of their instrument.
