Introduction: Emily Davidson is a versatile and experienced cellist providing private and group lessons for children and adults. Since 2003, she has maintained a studio of private students in New York, Connecticut, and Boston, and has recently relocated to Los Angeles. Emily enjoys working with both children and adults, making music fun and accessible while maintaining structure and clarity. Her organized, friendly approach helps students progress rapidly and with ease. In addition to working with children and adult amateurs, Emily also works with advanced students who are interested in exploring the baroque style and historical performance practice. Emily is an active performer of baroque music on historical instruments. She also teaches and lectures on historical performance both at schools and on her YouTube channel. I love helping a student learn a piece they've always wanted to play or achieve their own personal goals. I also take pride in creating well-rounded musicians who are comfortable not only playing well, but also knowing about the composer or the piece, music theory, and sight-reading.

Emily is an incredible teacher and wonderful person. She taught my daughter for 5 years, from ages 9 through 13. My daughter not only learned a tremendous amount from Emily, but she also looked forward to her lessons. Emily is an excellent instructor - she is smart, talented, and knowledgeable while also being gentle, supportive, motivating, encouraging, and kind. Over the years I've come to learn that this combination of qualities is not easy to find. Emily is also very responsible and reliable with scheduling. As an added bonus, Emily's Patreon posts are amazing and impressive, and my daughter and I have loved watching/listening to them together. While happy for Emily that she made the move from Boston to LA, we are very sad that she won't be able to continue to teach my daughter. Anyone would be very lucky to have Emily as a teacher.

Emily is a great teacher. She taught my son (currently 11 years old) for 2 years, and he made a lot of progress during that time. She was very patient and developed a nice rapport with my son, and really helped him to understand rhythm and improve his intonation, tone, bow hold, and sight-reading. She was always on time for lessons, and was always extremely professional in our interactions. We were very sorry that she moved away! We highly recommend Emily as a cello teacher.

Emily has been a wonderful cello teacher for me over the past 5 years. I had no musical background and could not read music. She had to teach a 42 year old starting with the very basics. We followed the Suzuki books, but she was always more than willing to modify current, non-Suzuki, songs so that I could learn them also. She even helped me learn enough to play at a friend's wedding! Emily was always willing to work with my schedule, and she miraculously offered to drive to my house for just a slightly higher fee. I highly recommend her and am sad to see her leave Boston.

Emily was our daughter's cello teacher for the past 1.5 yr in the Boston area. Our daughter progressed consistently while working with Emily and always enjoyed her lessons. Emily knew when to push and when to be patient and encouraging, and how to keep a young student's interest. In addition to her great teaching skills, Emily is also always super responsive by email, very professional, making it easy to set-up lessons. We were sad to see her leave Boston - we miss her already!

Emily was my daughter's first cello teacher. She is very patient and motivating, and my daughter looked forward to her cello lessons. We are sad that Emily moved away, as we were looking forward to continuing lessons. The west coast is lucky to have Emily!

Lessons are typically taught in the student's home and rates include travel time. 30 minutes: $65—45 minutes: $75—60 minutes: $85—Discounts available for purchasing more than one lesson at a time.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to start the first lesson discussing the goals for the student and any prior experience in music or with the cello. After we discuss goals and background, I like to start with simple exercises like scales and move from there into solo repertoire and also duets we can play together.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Master of Music in Early Music Performance from The Longy School of Bard College, Cambridge, MA. Bachelor of Music in Cello Performance from The Hartt School of Music at University of Hartford, CT.
