FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to start the process with a phone or video call where we can discuss the client's goals and how hands-on they would like me to be. After the call, I will send an email with my recommendations for how to move forward, including what services I can provide for different elements of the project and estimates for how long I expect the services to take (in terms of hours clocked and turn-around time). Throughout the process, I make myself available via email and telephone to ensure good communication. Should additional services be needed, I am happy to continue working with the client until he/she is satisfied with the end product. Please note: Like an attorney, I use a digital timer when working to ensure that I only charge my clients for time spent on a particular project (and not for checking my unrelated email, etc.).
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
As an undergraduate at Tulane University, I studied both psychology and English (with an emphasis in creative writing) to explore the interconnections between literature and psychological constructs like emotion, thought, and human connection. A few years later, I decided to focus on psychology, leaving writing as a hobby, and earned my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from The George Washington University. In my day-job, I am employed as a Clinical Psychologist in private practice. I also work pro-bono as a training supervisor; in this role, I coach graduate students on how to conduct psychotherapy and write comprehensive psychological assessments (these are complex, analytical documents). I also love to coach my students through the rigorous internship process (which is similar to the Residency application process for Medical students). In this role, I edit/critique cover letters, application essays, and role-play interviewing skills.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
Though I love my work as a psychologist immensely, I am limited in terms of how much advice I can give and do not get to exercise the writing part of my brain as much as I would like. I decided to offer my services via Thumbtack so I can spend a bit more of my time on teaching, writing, and creative endeavors.
