Introduction: I know all the rules, but I also know when to break them. (Obviously I don't know ALL the rules because there are so many, but you know what I mean.) I am also a writer, and I know how it feels to have your work critiqued, so I'm gentle in my critique of others' writing. Like a glass of fine vintage wine, correcting grammar gives me a buzz. I'm not as obsessive as Sheldon Cooper from Big Bang Theory, but I am extremely knowledgeable because I studied English/grammar in college and have kept learning more and more tiny details in the years since, especially during the past four years, doing freelance work for The Ghostwriting Agency. I have experience proofreading hundreds and hundreds of pages, learning many obscure grammar rules along the way, researching them as I encounter sentences that require knowledge of them.

Sarah is very easy to work with and easy to train on project-dependent specifics. Her rates are reasonable and she works quickly. I particularly liked her light approach when I hired her to proofread a translation of a deceased author, since there was no allowance to make substantive changes. She worked in Word files for my company, but I would equally trust her with PDFs given the right training. She queries appropriately when changes may be needed and is very diplomatic.

I'm a copy-editor, and I always turn to Sarah to proofread books I've worked on. I'm also a writer and have her proofread books I've written. I've worked with other proofreaders in the past, and she's simply the best.

FAQs

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I charge $25/hour. (The woman editing my book tells me I should charge $30 or even $35/hour; it seems unrealistic in this economy, though.) My speed is generally between 5000 and 6000 words/hour, depending on how light or dense the material is. (Easy-reading fiction, then, would be on the 6000 end.)
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
BA in English from Toccoa Falls College, 2005, and lots of research/study since then
How did you get started doing this type of work?
In both high school and college, I proofread the student newspaper and literary magazine. I discovered my eye for detail at a young age, noticing mistakes in textbooks, newspapers, etc.
