FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My pricing is fairly regular, although there's a big difference between tutoring (helping someone with Spanish instruction they're already receiving) and lessons (which I need to spend time planning in order to make productive.) In the case of my online client, for example, I am paid $80 per week. This price includes a 90 minute face-to-face instruction and practice lesson, the 1-3 hours I spend planning the lesson each week, as well as homework and any grading necessary. Basically, it comes out to about $25 per hour. If we're talking tutoring, then all I have to do is show up (no planning required), which is why I offer drop-in tutoring for only $20/2 hours on Wednesday evenings in Windsor at Coffee House 29. If you are struggling with Spanish instruction you're already receiving, this would be a sweet deal!!
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I would like to first ask a lot of questions to find out where my student's strengths and weaknesses already lie and exactly what their desires are for learning Spanish. One of my current students, for example, needs to be able to speak Spanish with her customers so we don't worry or focus on writing and spelling during our time together. We do our practices orally so that she can practice thinking and speaking quickly.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have degrees in English, Spanish, and Secondary Education from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. I also studied abroad in Costa Rica and Spain. I also lived in Peru for ten weeks while completing my student teaching. I have a Masters Degree in Spanish Language and Culture from the University of Salamanca, Spain and I completed my thesis on using technology to create authentic learning opportunities for my students. I am currently certified to teach K-12 Spanish in the state of Colorado.
