Introduction: SPECIALIZED READING INSTRUCTION: Academic Associates Reading Course is a phonetic program based linguistically on the 44 sounds we use in English. There are 13 lessons, and each one focuses on decoding rules. A lesson takes as long as a student needs to be able to retain and apply those rules. With the first lesson, the student learns the five short vowels and the sixteen consonants that have only one sound. Then the student uses those tools to sound out 300 words. The Academic Associates Reading Program focuses on teaching the 44 sounds of the English language and the rules as to when the letter or combination of letters makes their distinctive sounds. At the Academic Associates Reading Center, students are given the tools to unlock words. They become able to sound out words correctly. The 220 words on the Dolch word list are meant to be sight words for children, but only five are sight words. The remaining 215 words can be unlocked! (See Dolch word list.) Instead of trying to memorize words, students will be empowered to read thousands and thousands of words. Using the Academic Associates Reading Program, nonreaders can be reading 300 words in just 2 hours. That's powerful! COMMOM CORE MATH: Our tutors know and understand the common core math curriculum and will help your child understand the concepts necessary to pass the state exam. The new Common Core standards for mathematics are designed not only to improve the standard approach to teaching and learning math, but also to inspire students to pursue futures in mathematics, science, and technology. We are adding Common Core Math to our services because we understand that many parents are too busy and / or unable to assist their children. We provide this service as a resource for parents who need it, or who believe their child may benefit from it.

The Academic Associates have been tutoring my 10 year old son since August 2012. Before coming to this program, my son has always had a problem with focusing and reading, and two years ago at the beginning of fourth grade, he was diagnosed with ADD. We have tried other tutors before, but none of them seemed to be a good fit for our son. Since coming to the academy, my son has been more focused when he reads and at the beginning of this school year, he was finally on the appropriate reading level for his grade. I'm confident that he will be reading above and beyond his current reading level soon, thanks to this wonderful program. Our experience with The Academic Associates has been great and has not only improved my sons academic life, but has also given him more confidence with his friends, because he knows what great things he has achieved. I just wanted to take a minute to tell you how happy I am that I made the call to your center. The Academic Associates of New York Reading Program has been able to do what others couldnât. From the day my son Joseph first met you, his attitude towards reading changed. During the initial consultation, the way you took the time to explain the program and how it works made a great impact on him. When we left your center and as we were walking to the car he said âI hope he can help meâ. Until that moment, he wanted nothing to do with reading and as he put it âI hate reading, itâs stupidâ. I knew at that point he would be OK. He has completed the course over a time period of 1 Â½ years. His reading skills improved tenfold. Joeâs attitude towards reading was just anger and despair. Now, his attitude has changed to more of âI can do itâ. He is now an Honor Role student and doing great in school. I could not be any prouder. My son has been going to Academic Associates for over a year now and I have seen a major improvement in how Jonathan reads. When we first started, Jonathan couldn't blend his sounds together, after a few sessions with Mr. Green, he was doing that with ease. Mr. Green makes coming to Academic Associates fun for Jonathan. I highly recommend Academic Reading Associates and I'm glad they have been able to assist my son with learning to read.

My daughter was struggling in school with her reading and math. Academic Associates and the wonderful tutors at the center was able to help her refocus her and taught her skills that are benefiting her everyday in school. She is no longer in need of ALS support and received high honors every quarter. Her reading scores rose up into the 90s and she is much more confident in her abilities now. Our Rate is $45 per hour. Our sessions are one-to-one for personalized instruction.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
How We Work: Academic Associates Reading Center Academic Associates Reading Center. A clean, safe and positive learning Environment. When you come to the Academic Associates Reading Center, you will be greeted by a friendly and knowledgeable Reading Instruction Specialist. The process begins with a presentation about our services, and how we work. Then we conduct a Q&A session to get a clear understanding of the problem and to assure the parent and the student that they will learn to read at Academic Associates Reading Center. After the presentation and Q&A, if a determination is made to enroll the child, we begin the assessment process. The assessment process consists of two exercises. The first exercise is the WRAT Wide Range Achievement Test and the second exercise is the Assessment of Basic Word-Attack Skills. If needed, we also conduct an assessment of the student's comprehension level. We use the Basic Reading Inventory {preschool thru college}, by Jerry L. Johns for this assessment. Once the enrollment and assessment process is complete, we set up a schedule for the student to attend at least two, 1-hour sessions per week.
