Introduction: Ever since I could remember, I have been organizing myself, family and friends.I pursued an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education and Masters Degree in Special Education. I used my organizational skills to help children and their families. Not only did I teach math and literacy skills, I emphasized the importance for my students to organize their school items and papers. As a professional organizer, I bring that same passion of organizing to every organizing job. I like to thiink of myself as a personal organizer, developing systems to fit the style of my clients. It is my life's experiences, coupled with my teaching career, that have given me the necessary skills to evaluate and recommend systems that work for my clients. My passion became a business and my business became a very rewarding experience for both my clients and myself. There is nothing more satisfying than sharing in the joy of someone experiencing the feeling of being organized.

If you ever need organization, Claire Newman is the one to contact. She is great ! When she came into my cluttered "storage" room, she established clear goals based on my needs. Claire turned an overwhelming task into a doable project by "chunking" (breaking it into simpler parts) the job. She established guidelines, e.g. like items with like items, cleared off any ledges or flat surfaces, and used tools like labels to attach to clear bins, folders, and any other organizers. What I particularly liked is that she used what I had on hand. Claire also suggested "rules" to put things in places, i.e. frequently used items made easily accessible, infrequently or rarely used items, like seasonal, were also put in their places. After Claire made what I feared would be a daunting task into something fun and pleasant, she left me with a solution that is very functional and simple to maintain. Claire has worked with both my children who absolutely loved her. She taught them many organizational skills from how to organize their binders, to organizing their backpacks, just to name a few. Having these skills has also helped them with time management which they really had problems with. She has also taught them important study skills that have helped them tremendously over the years. These are the skills that they will carry over through out their lives. I would definitely say that hiring Claire to work with your children is the best investment you can make and money well spent. She is witty, smart, caring and overall very calming and reassuring. She is a gem and I would highly recommend her.

When my husband and I decided we might in the next few years think about moving and downsizing from a three story house plus basement, garage and shed, that we lived in for almost a quarter of a century, we were totally at a loss as to where to begin “decluttering”. A friend recommended Claire Newman from “Clearly Organized Living.” She interviewed us separately to find out what our goals were. They were very different. With Claire’s help, we were able to do a healthy round of decluttering. She had ideas as to what to do with medical equipment, paints, exercise equipment and almost anything. Many of her ideas were helpful to charities as well as tax write offs. Claire was and is a delight to work with. She loves her work and it shows. She also helps organize what you are keeping. When we decided to move, she measured all our furniture and placed in on floor plans to help us decide what would fit and what wouldn’t fit into our new house. Prior to moving, Claire gave us a timeline with tasks to make it doable. She gave us a system to track the contents of boxes and furniture to direct the movers. Our move went so smoothly. Thank you Claire! She is amazing and very reasonably priced. We could not have done it without her.

I recommend Claire highly – I swear she saved my life! Without Claire, I could never have tackled the job of reorganizing almost every aspect of my house, from attic to cellar and we are still working on my study. Claire is naturally orderly and tidy and has taught me a lot about how to do that on my own. I think she was happier than I was when we finally finished six Saturdays of cleaning out and organizing my cellar. She is knowledgeable about storage systems and recycling /disposal options and is constantly learning more. She is very resourceful and always willing to go the extra step to resolve whatever is holding you back. She even sends a seasonal reminder about changing out closets from winter to summer and back. In addition to her calm and pleasant personality, I think what I value most is that she is non-judgmental – it is much easier to accept advice and constructive suggestions from Claire than from a friend or relative who wants to help you, even though they are saying the exact same thing.

I am a graduate student working on a thesis, a teacher, and a writer. I needed to create an office out of a room that had become a disorganized room full of piles of papers and boxes of random items. Claire completely organized the space into a real office where I can now work. Boxes were emptied and every file drawer and pile was sorted and organized into an appropriate location. Most significantly, she created systems that will help me keep my office organized. We created shelving, organized supplies, created a filing system, and made the space look inviting. Instead of walking by the room with fear, I can now use it for its intended purpose. Claire's organizational skills are remarkable. She thinks of thinks I did not and has a sense for how to use space that is above and beyond helpful and efficient. I wish that I had been working with Claire throughout my school years.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I charge an hourly rate but offer plans that would fit their budget as well as their schedule. Some clients find that the hour is just what they need to motivate and give them a plan to get started. Other clients continue with more sessions and often I will set them up with "homework" they can do themselves, helping with the time management to create better organizational habits,
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
The process starts with a phone conversation where we both get to know each other. My goal is to talk with them to find out what their needs are discussing their current systems. I try to find out what has historically worked as well as what hasn't worked. We also discuss their vision on how they would like their home/office to function on a day to day basis. At the same time I am hoping that the client is talking to me to see if I would be a good match for them. Depending on the client my first visit begins the session. Sometimes it is important to make an initial visit to the home so more information can be gathered.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a Master Teacher with a masters in special education and many years of experience working with children and their families. I have taken many courses through NAPO (National Association for Professional Organizers resulting as a professional member status. Also I have received my Certificate of Study in Chronic Disorganization as well as a Certificate of Study in working with ADD clients. I also have life experiences with family, friends and my own family. I continue reading attending workshops, always finding information that will help my clients.
