FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I work with two systems: hourly or project based. For something like vocal recording and editing it, or mixing a piano vocal I usually work on an hourly base as it is usually only a few hours of work depending on the project. For a full production I usually prefer to work on a flat flee per project base and the reason is very simple. When working on a creative project, like producing a track, you need to experiment. Not everything works! When time is limited you feel like everything you do must be used because the client paid for your time to do it. And that is not healthy for creative work. Experimenting and trying different things is a crucial part of creating art. Sometimes you need to spend 3 hours in one direction to realize it wasn't the right choice. It also helps with the vibe and the mood, as taking a 5 minute break to get some coffee or just to go outside and get some air doesn't seem inappropriate anymore. You can get immersed in the project with nothing else on your mind but focusing on the art. And this is why, in my experience, flat fees work better for production projects.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
For a full production client I usually like to meet up in person if they're in town, or skype or facetime if they aren't. We talk about the project and what kind of sound they're going for. Instrumentation, budget, time frame, mixing, and mastering are usually some of the topics we cover. As well as their vision and where they see their career going in the short, mid and long terms.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been in bands since I was 12! Released my debut album when I was 21. Won my first award when I was 22 (pop songwriter of the year in Costa Rica). Then attended Berklee College of Music where I studied Music Production and Engineer and graduated with honors. I've been working full time as a freelance producer and engineer since 2014.
