I hired Matt to do framing work in my basement. I probably should have been worried when I saw that the date on his insurance policy was the same as the date that I'd asked him for it, but I gave him the benefit of the doubt.
He told me the materials to purchase, and as soon as they arrived, he came over to begin the work. Unfortunately, he did not yet have his NJ contractor's license, so I would not let him begin the work. I paid him to help me haul the lumber to the basement, but then I could not let him begin work without a license.
After a few weeks of waiting for Matt to get his license, I went ahead and hired another contractor. The new contractor showed me that the lumber Matt had me order was larger than we needed, and most of the pieces needed to be cut down, leading to more waste than was necessary. In addition, when the job was done, I had 191 pieces of lumber left over, from the 348 that Matt had told me to purchase. Now it is my burden to return it.

My husband and I recently hired Matthew to put up some mirrors for us but he was doing such a great job we had him do much more including installing an electric fireplace, putting up blinds etc. Matthew texted before he came to see what the mirrors looked like so he would be prepared. He had all the right brackets and supplies to complete the job. He was polite, efficient and very neat. He was cognizant that I was a little fussy and really tried to be meticulous. He did an excellent job and we will certainly hire him again. We would recommend him in a heartbeat.
