Raymond is a master carpenter, handy man and problem solver. But, just as important, he is also extremely service oriented. Besides the fantastic work, he will always show up on time and keep his work area clean and is great at communication. We've used Raymond twice so far. Once to turn a small mud room into a utility closet with no exterior door. This latest time, Raymond transformed our cramped kitchen into a spacious kitchen that opened up into the living room. He removed a wall in our kitchen and created a bar top on one part of the wall. The detail this man put into every single part of this project was fantastic. It looks better than what we had hoped for. He gave us plenty of options and ideas, then he made it happen. I'm pretty sure we now have the nicest kitchen in Durham. Without a doubt, we will hire him if we need help and it's a service provides.

We needed to get our house ready for sale. Mr. Phipps, Raymond, came to our rescue! I cannot speak highly enough about the quality of his work and the professional yet personal way he worked with my wife and I. He took the time to understand what we wanted while offering expert advise as well. He first completed extensive deck and front porch repair/construction, including replacing two sets of deck stairs, added a new porch ceiling and new deck lattice, then pressure washed and painted it all. This went so well we asked him to quote several inside jobs: he hung kitchen cabinets, made a matching refrigerator side panel & four pantry doors, installed new cabinet hardware, installed new closet shelving in 5 closets, & floor molding. This went so well we asked him to quote several other jobs inside! He exceeded our expectations at every turn, treating our house like his own. Thank you Raymond!

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
When a client has several handyman type projects i.e. furniture assembly, picture hanging, caulking just to name a few my rate is $50 hr with a 2 hr minimum. For larger projects I will submit a quote with my labor and materials. One important note I do not up charge the cost of materials.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I always like to see the requested project in person. By doing this I can make sure I fully understand what the client wants to have completed.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I have always enjoyed working with my hands. Whenever things around the house needing fixing I would do the repairs myself. All our renovations in our home from the master bath remodeling to installing a vend free fireplace with built ins I completed myself. After 30 years in the corporate life it was time for a change.
