This has been a truly terrible experience, fraught with drama, delay, and distress. We began in August what was described as a small project (with the promise that a full crew would finish it in a week) and still have not had 1/2 of the project finished. We are pulling out and turning to another contractor to finish the job. For months now, we've lived with a piece of plywood and a tarp across our patio door, an enormous inconvenience that has meant we can't use our upper porch at all, and the room on the other side of the tarp is now freezing. Why we don't have a door is part of the drama you'll get if you hire a company that has never met an excuse or a tall tale it doesn't want to use to put you off and delay actual work. When a worker does appear, he often doesn't have the tools he needs to do the job. A shocking lack of professionalism and, above all, a deeply distressing lack of concern and courtesy.
Regal Construction's reply
It is unfortunate that this customer feels that this was a truly bad experience. We at Regal do not want any customer to walk away feeling this way. We take pride in our work and always keep the home owners best interest in mind. Regal Construction does not provide “excuses” or “tall tales” our only fault is that we are probably too honest at times. Our team always presents themselves in a professional manner. Even when the homeowner reprimanded one of our employees for something that was not his fault, he politely listened. As was stated, we did sign a contract in August with the homeowner. However, after we started the project we had identified multiple issues that were caused by previous contractors that performed work on the home. It was found that work performed by these contractors had left beams supporting the header for a door sagging, there was mold growing on the drywall to the right and left side of the door. After further investigation it was also revealed that whoever installed the door did not flash the door properly causing an enormous amount of rot to the wood to the right and left side of the door. Compounding the issue, the contractor that installed the deck on the rear of the home, removed siding and did not flash it properly prior to installing the band boards for the installation of the deck. As a result of these multiple issues, there was massive damage of rot and deterioration. We at Regal could have turned a blind eye and just did what our contract stated, but that is not who we are or what we are about. We informed the homeowner and worked to remedy all the issues. Maybe we should have walked away and took the attitude of “not our problem” but again that is not who we are as a company and we could not, would not do that to any of our customers! Had we not addressed any of the issues caused by the previous contractors, we have no doubt that this homeowner would have eventually had major issues and most likely it would have cost them thousands of dollars to rectify. Even though it was not part of our contract to fix any of these issues, we did so because it was the right thing to do.
