Introduction: Sarah Durrant is an emerging pianist and guitarist. She has studied music at Utah State University and has been playing piano for 10 years, guitar for 6. She has performed with the University of Utah Chamber Choir and is currently studying piano under the University of Utah piano faculty. She concentrates on technique, theory, and skill when teaching her students. Sarah teaches any style requested but emphasizes the importance of classical music and the base it provides all musicians. Sarah has had several years of experience working with young children. She's worked as a preschool teacher, an after-school program teacher, and a nanny for several years. She has begun to build up a music studio because she has seen the strong affect music has on people and the changes it can bring in someone's life. Sarah strongly emphasizes a play-based approach when teaching young children by using fun games and rewards to help children gain a love for music. Her prices are reasonable, giving students a good price for professional lessons. The first lesson is always complimentary! Included in the price are incentives provided for those who practice, theory and music lessons, and recitals. Sarah is also currently running a guitar studio out of Murphy's Guitars over on Bountiful's Main Street.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I typically charge $75 a month for piano lessons and $70 for guitar and voice lessons. Piano lessons are $5 more because it is my emphasis area in college and have had many years of classical training in piano. The first lesson is always free!

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

When I get a new student, I provide the first lesson for free. I'll sit down with the student and find out what musicians influence and inspire them. We'll talk about goals and what you want to learn, if you have anything in specific you want to be able to play. I'll introduce the books you'll be working out of and try to fit in a little bit of playing in the first lesson.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I've performed with the Woods Cross High School Concert Choir and the University of Utah Choirs. I've taught piano for several years, including while serving an LDS mission in Jackson, Mississippi. I have taught ages ranging from 4 - 43. I've taken piano, violin, guitar, and voice lessons for many years.
