Disaster!!! Will was a super pleasant and intriguing person to deal with. He was a salesman the whole time thru the quote process. Unfortunately hiring a tree stump removal person to take down trees was probably not the smartest decision I made. Will attempted to and did knock down over 8 trees in conjunction with Lusk tree service. I was told that the mess of the trees would be cleaned up and that he cares about customers so much he would throw grass seed down after removing a stump. Well none of his promises lived up to the hype. He was able to remove all trees but left me with over 1500 in damages to my property in including lawn damage. It was a two day process and on day two he told me to help off set the cost he would drop the trees and I could clean up the mess and he would save me $150. Unfortunately I was not prepared for the destruction it would cause me. I was left with huge stumps unable to be moved in my backyard but worse yet many of the trees that he dropped were not even cut thru all the way. I was left with whole trees damaging my lawn and even more upsetting I was forced to call another company who has yet to visit fix his mess. Instead of being upfront and letting me know my job was to large to handle he took my money and ran. I tried calling and leaving him a voicemail explaining my concerns and I was left a nasty voicemail stating that I kept changing my mind on what I wanted. Will was not gracious yet alone smart enough to realize he didn't totally cut thru all the logs. Not to mention instead of berating the customer he could have easily fixed the mess and had multiple referrals from me and my family. Day one he worked on four trees he was there from 8-6. Day 2 6 trees he worked from 8-2:30. So it was faster to knock down more trees. I don't like writing bad reviews not in my DNA and appreciate his family business but buyer beware on this company. I have had amazing results on thumbtack but this has truly made me regret using thumbtack or wills stump grinding. Oh the icing on the cake was Barden tree service would have done the whole job for me less the what will quoted by to stand by my word and being threatened by his illegitimate contract I still choose to give him my money. BUYER BEWARE!!!! Next time call Barden!!!
Will's Stump Grinding's reply
James, I am very sorry to hear the comments and acquisition you are making about me and my company. Even more I am sorry that you are now saying your not happy with my services. From the beginning of our doing business together there was an issue. I showed up to do an estimate and everything was going fine. We both agreed on 5 trees to be taken down in your back yard 3 of the tree stumps were to be ground out and 2 of the stumps you wanted cut at 4' tall. The stumps that were to be ground out the grindings would be cleaned up after grinding was completed and raked up area at no time did I offer to seed the area. I do offer seeding and topsoil if customers are interested in upgrading levels of service. We both agreed on the work to be done, time and day to start the job, and the price to do this work. We even put all of this in a written estimate and both signed the estimate. The day before the work was scheduled to begin you called me and told me you had gotten another estimate for same work and additional work. You told me the other estimate was for 6 additional trees and was for $1100.00 more than my $1400.00 estimate for the first 5 trees and stumps. I expressed my concern that we already had a signed agreement for work to be done and the price to do it for as well as when to do it. We comunicated a couple of times that day and I told you I did not want to be the bad guy and hold you to our agreement but I had guys and equipment scheduled for the day and it was not fair to back out after I had scheduled an entire day, and guys to do your work. In an attempt to not have to be the bad guy forcing you to stick to our signed agreement I agreed to do both the first 5 trees and the additional 6 trees for a total of $2500.00 which was much less than what I would have normally charged to do the entire job. But I was trying to help you out and do the entire job for much less money than I wanted instead of just sticking to the agreement and having you hire the second guy to do the 6 trees if he was able to do them for so much less than I wanted. I show up to do the first 5 trees and everything went as planned. You and your wife both told me you were extremely happy with my work and your yard looked amazing. The filling Monday I showed up to do the second half of the job and this is where things again started to go sideways as you (James) tried to get me to throw in the stump grinding for 3 of the 6 trees which was not part of our written agreement. Then you wanted us to remove an additional tree. I informed you that I could grind the stumps for you but I was not going to grind them for free. Also I told you I would take down the additional tree but it would cost an additional $150 which you aggreed on and I added it to the job. We took down several of the trees and things were going great and little before lunch you came home and I asked you to come look at our progress. You came down back to look at the work and told us it looked amazing and you were very happy. We talked about the other trees on the property that were also dead. I made a suggestion that in my opinion there was about 12 more trees that should be removed before they became any more dangerous. You agreed they did need to come down and we were going to wait untill this fall to do them because you needed time to save up the money. I completly understand how that works. We talked little more you told me how the electric was going to cost you something like $3000 that weekend. I told you that if you wanted to save the additional $150 from the added tree we could cut all the wood to fire wood lengths and leave it for you to clean and stack where ever you wanted it. You agreed you wanted to take care of the wood and save the money. But we would still chip up all the branches from all of the trees which we did take care of. Also we would take up all of the area we could but we would not be able to take everything because the fire wood would be laying around making it impossible to take 100% Again you agreed told us everything sounded great and then you left to return to your job. We finished taking down all the trees we agreed on, we chipped up all the branches, raked up everything we could get to. We cut every tree / log into fire wood length sized pieces of wood. We cut all the way through each and every piece. We cut each of the stumps as close as we could to the ground except the ones you told us you wanted at particular heights. We took the time to move your picnic table, your fence, chairs, and few other objects before we started that day so we put everything back where we found it. As we were finished with all the work as per our written agreement I want up to the house to have you or your wife confirm we had done everything as we described and up to all expectations. After confirming the job was done properly your wife signed my written estimate saying everything was good She then played me for the work we did. I left your home thinking another job well done. I didn't like the amount of money I made on the job because of trying to help save you few bucks by letting you clean up fire wood and also agreeing to do the work for $2500.00 instead of being the bad guy and holding you to our original signed agreement for the 5 trees for $1400 and let the other guy do the other work. There was nothing broken or hit or damaged to any of your property at all so I do not get where we cost you any damages. You did call and leave me a message that you did not realize there was going to be so much fire wood from the trees for you to clean up and you said it would take you days to do so. So I did return your call the following morning and left a message saying that I was sorry you didn't realize it was going to be that much fire wood. I was not rude or nasty at all but I did say that I was not happy that every time we had agreed on something (in writting mind you) you decided to change your mind on what you wanted. I was not happy but told you that if you were that unhappy with the volume of fire wood that I would again try to make you happy and I would come back out and move all the fire wood for the $150 we had discounted the job for you to move it. I said I could be back out to your house this Friday morning to make it happen. I never heard anything from you so I just took it as tomorrow morning I would come move the wood. Then today I get this very bad review on my thumbtack and also the guy I hired to help me on the job had gotten a horrible review on his goggle review. That upset me so I called you on the phone again and that is when you told me all of these things that you claim were so bad and you were forced to hire a guy for $1500 to clean up my mess. That is obserd as that part of the job you only paid me $1100 to do to begin with. Also as per your Google mail you left me the only issue was moving the fire wood which per my voice mail I was going to take care of for you. I have done everything I can think of to try and help you with the work you needed done for much less than I wanted but I didn't want to hold you to our first agreement I wanted to help even if it cost me my profit margin. I really wish if you were not happy you would have allowed me to fix the issues. I am sorry that you feel i did not hold up my end of the deal.. If I didn't do the job right why did you pay me because I never took a Kenny from you until the work was completed and confirmed by you and your wife. I would never had excepted payment if the job was not done to your satisfaction. Sorry that you were not happy after you told me at lunch it looked amazing.
