- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am continually learning and educating myself. I am currently pursuing a new level of accreditation from the Travel Institute; I currently hold designations of Destination Wedding and Honeymoon specialist and Certified Travel Associate, and am working on the Certified Travel Consultant that should be completed by the end of 2015.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Make sure you fit each other. There are many personalities in the world and not every agent and every customer should work together. Make sure you are working with a PROFESSIONAL Travel Agent. There are many people out there that say they are an agent that merely paid for a website. If you hear "just go to my website and you can book anything there.... run. A professional agent should be able to show you credentials from a reputable source such as IATA, CLIA or The Travel Institute. Ask them what their credentials are.
- What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
1) Travel agents make nothing if you book air only - so many of us, myself included, charge a non-refundable fee for this service. 2) Travel agents make nothing unless you book with them - so please do not use them to shop costs. If you are shopping around, be honest and let us know. Many will say - I am sorry I don't work with shoppers and others will gladly help you - for a nominal fee that may, or may not (depending on their policy) be applied to the final payment of your trip.
