FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am constantly reading and experimenting. Teleflora, used by the majority of all established florists, offers a lot of videos and classes. I accept advice - I'm not afraid to be wrong and certainly not afraid to learn. I've worked with some of the best and most experienced in the business - each with their own personal style who have helped me develop my own.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
It was an accident. I had been writing about floral design and other how-to articles for years. I decided to help out at a shop answering phones for Valentine's Day week. I was asked if I'd like to try my hand. I was a natural. I had no idea. And I learned backwards. I learned how to put together a $100 arrangement before I could design a $25 arrangement. It should come as no surprise. My mother was a gifted florist, as was my husband's grandfather. I've managed formal wear stores, picked gowns off the runway...this was natural for me, even if a bit of surprise.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
While I loved tall, fanned out wedding bouquets, most of my clients prefer rounded bouquets - they are romantic and sweet. Having free reign to decorate is a blast because I truly love getting to know my clients and see the huge smiles when the job is completed according to their wishes.
