Introduction: I started DJ'ing for KTLR in Terrell, TX in 1987. I've been DJ'ing for music radio and clubs. Transitioned over to talk radio in 1997. With the combination of music radio, music knowledge, combined with talk radio... That means you get a DJ that plays great music, your music, and talks, interacts with you and your guests. We don't just DJ, we put on a show and make it personal. I like the freedom and hours that come with this job. My life revolves around music, and I can tell you what I was doing when that song came out. I enjoy performing and entertaining people, and make it my shows personal instead of just playing music and hiding behind the music.

FAQs

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

On the front-line, it looks like I just show up and play some music for a few hours, get a fat check, and call it a day. In reality, I'm in constant contact with my clients. I over look their planning, make sure they don't miss any vital details. Hunt down songs for the client that they want, but I may not have. Meeting with them to go over the venue, get an idea what they want to achieve for the night. I have some clients that want regular songs and remixed with another song. If I'm also providing sound for the ceremony, I want to go to the rehearsal to take notes, and see how everything will look and sound, looking for my cues to go into the next song. Days before a wedding, I will build the Client's show so all I have to do is load it up when I get to the venue. The entire show is laid out in advance to make sure I have all the songs that are requested, and they are in the order they will be fired off for the ceremony to the first dance with the Bride & Groom.

  • Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

We were in a old building that hadn't been used in 40 years according to the Bride. The electrical was a little skeptical, but it looked like we had what we needed to provide power for over head lighting not related to me, power for the DJ gear, and power for the DJ light show. We blew the power and the building went dark. What felt so great about this moment, and made me a very proud DJ was, even though the electricity blew, the music was still playing! The looks on people's faces as they looked around the room at each other. They knew, or felt pretty sure the power went out, but couldn't understand why the music was still playing at full volume and didn't skip a beat. When I do weddings, I put the show on a battery backup, than can run the show for up to an hour and a half. I've used this a rule, that all wedding events must be on battery backup. We have been doing this for 2 years without interruption until that night. Once the Bride & Groom, along with guests figured out what was going on and the loss of power wasn't going to stop me, everyone continued dancing in the dark with the soft glow of candles lighting the room. Made it really romantic!
