FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
For most small jobs, I charge an hourly rate + materials. Materials are always at retail cost, no mark-up. Flooring is done based on the square footage. Large jobs will be bid on a job by job basis. I also offer discounts to Veterans, current military personnel and their families, Law Enforcement professionals, Fire & EMS, and public school teachers. Without that group of folks, I wouldn't be able to do what I do.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
While the state doesn't have any education or continuing education requirements for handymen, I like to read current publications to stay on top of new products and techniques.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I spent most of my adult life trying to make it in corporate America, with very little success. I found myself looking for work every 6-8 months, and relying on odd jobs while I was between jobs. As I mentioned above, I have been involved with various aspects of the building trades my whole life, so I had the skills and the tools to do just about anything. Finally, I decided that this is what I love to do, I'm good at it, and there's a need for it, so why do I keep trying to force myself into a spot that I just don't fit in!
