Shane is an awesome photographer, and we highly recommend him. We recently decided to get professional family photos taken because it's been awhile and the grandparents have been "gently reminding" us that they need new pictures of our children. But it can be such a daunting task to find a good photographer among the many who are out there. We found Shane and decided to book him based on his positive reviews and the great pictures we saw on his website. I am so glad that we did! Having professional photos taken can feel so awkward, but Shane made it so easy and such a positive experience. His relaxed and easy-going nature was contagious and help put us at ease. He struck the right balance between suggesting poses (sitting on a bench, lying on a blanket) and just following us around and photographing us interacting as a family. He scheduled us for a half hour session, which I initially wasn't sure about, since it didn't seem very long. But it turned out that it was the perfect amount of time. And best of all, the pictures turned out absolutely beautiful. In fact, the only negative was how hard it was to narrow it down since they were all so fabulous!

Shane was absolutely incredible!! He was professional, on time, prepared, and had a positive attitude. The event had 200 people and while it seemed chaotic, Shane kept his composure and took stunning pictures, including beautiful candids and spectacular red carpet shots! He's now our official production company's photographer!!

Shane was absolutely OUTSTANDING. He was professional, punctual, but more importantly, he's incredibly talented and has such an excellent eye. He shot our engagement party, and did a simply phenomenal job. He captured some really fantastic moments, and that is what we'd asked him to do, as we love candids. He was really really great. He edited the images and delivered them very quickly. Total pro, and we were excited he was willing to work with our budget. Will hire him again without question.

As I was looking for a photographer last minute via thumbtack, there was something about Shane's biography that made me chose him out of all the others, and boy did I make the right choice!! He is amazing in his work, especially in candid pictures just as he mentioned in his bio. I chose him for family pictures as well as for my son's first birthday pictures and he was able to capture cute family moments that I absolutely adore! He was very easy to work with, very patient, gave us a beautiful background for pictures, and had our pictures for us right away!!! What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Yes, I have standard prices for family shoots, events and weddings. These details, and others, can be found on my website: wwwshanekarns.com.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I start by asking about the type of photography a new client is looking for to ensure we're a good fit stylistically. I then discuss their goals and address any questions or concerns they may have about the shoot. Of course, I also confirm dates and times, locations and logistics, etc.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
For me, photography began as an intense hobby that evolved into a part-time, then full-time business. It was only after I started working professionally that I took classes to improve my technical work, my camera knowledge, my post work (primarily with Lightroom and Photoshop), and my ability to pose and connect emotionally with clients. I've learned since that the best photographers simply have the keenest eyes. So I take photos whenever and wherever I can, work on shoots six to seven days a week, and stretch myself technically and artistically at every opportunity. I love my job!
