Introduction: First things first. I copyedit, development edit, proofread, and format academic work (journal articles, non-fiction manuscripts, PhD applications, dissertations, and theses). I also work with companies on papers, web content, and reports. However, I do not ghost write. I have taught for over ten years at universities and colleges. I continue to teach and now also offer my editing services to academics and students beyond my campus walls. Having been in academia for years, is helpful in knowing what written work makes the grade or goes to print. An inside perspective puts me in a unique vantage point:-) When editing, I seek to make manuscripts clear, precise, and consistent while retaining the writer's style. I have a keen eye when it comes to grammar and syntax. You can expect your documents to be precise as well as to communicate your ideas in a complete and engaging fashion. Professionalism, personalization, and satisfaction is my modus operandi!

Writing and Editing Services

The editing was of a very high quality. It went beyond the mechanics of grammar and punctuation to grasp the deeper meanings and philosophical ideas which were being communicated. By shining a light on inconsistencies and offering solutions for revision, the editor was able to transform the work from average to excellent. Heartfelt thanks also for timely response and professionalism.

Thank you, Rita, for your kind words. It was a pleasure working with you and getting to know you. I hope we have the chance to work together again. Best wishes and an early congratulations on the publication of your book.

Any disagreements that I had with Sangeeta's suggestions and commentary of my edited manuscript were easily dwarfed by her great customer service skills. She is a very accommodating freelancer, even reaching out to me offing additional guidance and advice after she had returned my edited book. Such behavior will be appreciated by any author, especially a debut one such as myself.

Sangeeta is a consummate professional, and a friendly partner to boot. I worked with her on my manuscript, which she read promptly. She gave respectful and pointed advice, and made wise suggestions for cuts. As a writer, I am often self-conscious about my work, so I was particularly appreciative of her willingness to act a quasi-coach, which helped me to gain the confidence I needed to make a submission to a publisher. In short, she encouraged me as well as edited my work professionally. Without hesitation, I would hire her again for another project.

Textrous Editing did a great job editing my dissertation. They found mistakes I had overlooked even after multiple readings. They also got my paper back to me ahead of the agreed deadline.

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

Pricing depends on the total word count of the manuscript, thesis, or dissertation. The basic proofreading price structure is: 10,000 words or less is three cents per word (word count x .03 cents) Over 10,000 words is two cents per word (word count x .02 cents) All developmental editing is calculated at three cents per word (total word count x .03 cents) and includes some iterations, all phone calls, and emails if requested. No extra charge for conversing via text, email, or by phone. Most times, good ideas need to be discussed :-) I have a separate fee structure for those who require only formatting.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I begin by either talking to a new client or exchanging emails so I know exactly what the client is hoping to get out of my services. I then ask them to email to me their manuscripts for editing. Through frequent and regular contact, I keep the client updated of changes and suggestions throughout the process.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a MA in Philosophy from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and a MA in Political Science from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. I taught (and still continue to teach) at colleges and universities for over 10 years. I have been a mentor to both students as well as junior faculty helping them hone and publish their research projects as well as offering them academic support and assistance.
