Introduction: I teach art workshops and classes in acrylic painting, mixed media, printmaking, sketching, drawing, and more, for adults and mature teens. I can also tailor lessons, classes, and workshops for individuals, families, small groups, or companies. Interested in corporate team building and creativity sessions? Visiting the wine country and looking for a fun and memorable creative experience? I can do that, too. I believe that making art in the spirit of experimentation and discovery is good for both the soul and the art. Learning to suspend criticism and judgment can be surprisingly tough, but it's a necessary part of the creative process, and essential for creativity to flourish. I encourage my students to dive into the process and explore the making of art. I am a working artist. You can see my work online at my website and visit me during Napa Valley Open Studios. I am also a California-credentialed teacher (in Art and English) who currently teaches art classes and workshops at the Calistoga Art Center and privately. I have taught art previously for Napa Valley College Community Education, and for Michael's in Santa Rosa. I also previously taught high school in the Salinas Valley. My students often tell me that they learn more in a short time from me than they have ever learned in other classes, and that they appreciate my encouragement and support of their own individual directions, and discovery and development of their own styles. They also enjoy how I introduce them to the work of other painters, both historical and contemporary. Art can be enjoyable, fun, challenging, frustrating, and magical -- I help people push through the frustrating places to the magic and delight of creative art-making. If you have a group looking for a workshop teacher, give me a call! In the Napa Valley, Sonoma County and some places beyond, depending on where you are, I can travel to teach you for one-day workshops. The costs will vary depending on the number of students, any supplies and materials I may be providing, and travel distance. If you are looking for individual lessons and live outside my area, consider whether a day-long workshop would work well for you! You are also welcome to come for lessons at my home studio, or drop in to my Acrylic Painting classes at the Calistoga Art Center.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I charge $85 for a 1 1/2 hour to 2 hour private lesson for one or two people, and will travel up to twenty miles. If you live further away from Calistoga than that, you might consider coming for a lesson at my home studio. I will travel further to give workshops with a minimum of eight people. Please contact me to determine pricing - it will vary depending on the number of participants, materials and supplies costs, and distance I need to travel.

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

I teach art classes, workshops, and private lessons in acrylic painting, mixed media, collage, landscape painting, portrait painting, color harmony and composition, block printing, sketching and drawing, and more. I teach classes and workshops in the Napa Valley, at the Calistoga Art Center. I also teach private, group, and corporate art and creativity lessons, classes, and workshops. Are you looking for a fun creative art event for your family, friends, or company, in the wine country or at your own location location? Some of my workshops are specifically designed to be fun for people of all ability levels, whether or not they have ever done art before. I also teach private lessons, preferably in the general area of Napa Valley and Santa Rosa, and depending on my schedule. If I travel outside of the area, there is an additional charge for my travel time.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

First, look to see whether you like an artist's work. Is this someone who can do what you'd like to learn? Second, find out what kind of teaching experience the artist has. The creation of art and the teaching of it are two very different things – an artist may create work you absolutely love, but not be able to teach in a manner that works for you as a learner. What is their approach? What is their teaching philosophy? Third, find out what you will walk away with – will you learn specific skills, methods, or techniques? Will you leave with a painting, a block print, a mixed media piece? Will you know how to create something using materials you've never used before? Or will you have had a fun, creative time – and how does the teacher's approach facilitate that?
