About
I am a native Chinese Mandarin and Chinese Taiwanese speaker, reader and writer. I was born, raised and educated in Taiwan, have lived in US for 4 years. I graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a Master’s degree. I am working at a company that requires me to use both English and Mandarin to communicate with colleagues from U.S. and China daily.
First started teaching Mandarin at the International Student Language Center in my college, where I received systematic training and gained lots of experience. I have been tutoring students from kids to adults in Mandarin for 8 years and really enjoy watching students improving their skills. I always try to know my students, develop the best way to help them improve, set practical goals, engage the students during lessons. I will try my best to help you manage this beautiful language if you are willing to spend time taking lessons with me and doing homework after lessons. Also, my schedule is pretty flexible, can be adjusted any time.
Teaching is my true passion and I love watching students improving themselves, never failing to give me a sense of achievement. Also, I would like to pass my own experience of learning Mandarin to people who are looking for help

I met up with Johnny for my first lesson yesterday evening. It went even better than I expected. Here's my assessment.
Administrative Style
Johnny has been very professional and prompt. Johnny was the first to respond to my request for a quote. There were a total of 3 other quotes, but I value promptness so I went with him. He also continued to communicate quickly to setup what type of lessons I wanted, time, and location. He arrived early for the first lesson.
Teaching Style
Johnny asks me questions in a very polite way to understand what level of Chinese I am comfortable with. Then he starts the lesson. While observing my reaction to questions and my answers he tries to correct me where he can, but not in a stern or disruptive way. That helps us to continue with the lesson and progress. Towards the end of the lesson, he remembers all the details that I stumbled on and review them. That was a pleasant surprise. It shows how caring he is about what I need to improve on.
Personality
Johnny seems like a very professional and smart guy. However, he doesn't act arrogant or stern. I'm not sure how old he is, but he seems much more mature and experienced than his bio on Thumbtack might seem at first glance. I think I made a great choice with going with Johnny.

Johnny has been an excellent tutor for Mandarin. He is patient and takes the time to make sure you understand and can work through pronunciations. He is always prepared and very flexible with his scheduling. I have been able to set goals and work towards them with Johnny and adjust the lessons to my needs and busy work/life schedule. I would recommend Johnny to anyone looking to learn Mandarin.
