FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I must appear in front my own "master instructor" from Japan, every other year or so, to be corrected and my techniques and knowledge. I attend regular regular re-certification seminars for personal training on regular basis. Each time, the lessons are for a week, twice a day, 3-4 hours each. At the end of it, I have to complete a physical demonstration of the lessons learned, as well as the Q&A session to test my philosophical and theoretical understanding. I also, attend regular seminars and classes with the USA National Karate-do Federation, the National Governing Body (NGB) for Karate in USA, as recognized by the US Olympic Committee.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
Teaching has been in my family since I can remember. I love helping people, and see the change I can help them achieve, and the goals that they can attain. Seeing people become healthy and successful, is what keeps me motivated. I am a Realtor, and as a real estate professional, I make my living. So when I teach martial arts or conduct personal training, I do it more for personal satisfaction and to benefit the client, rather than make a living. In this fashion, my attention is to the benefit of the client completely, and I am not distracted by the monetary rewards. We discuss the money once, and train from there on.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Visit the provider's web site. In today's internet market, everyone should have a web site that is informative and complete. I would stay away from web sites that are one page and very short in explaining what it is that they can do for you. Second, talk to the trainer or teacher. Ask specific questions about their background and abilities. How long have they been in business, what is variety of training they have had. How long specifically have they taught in the field that you are interested in.
