Introduction: I have a degree in Spanish and have experience tutoring Spanish for over 20 years to all ages and levels.
I have all 5 Star reviews except for one person who gave me a 2 star review because I decided that working with him would not be a good fit. He became upset and gave me a 2 star review even though I never met the man or tutored him. While this was unfair, Thumbtack.com has refused to remove this man's negative rating.
IMPORTANT: when selecting a tutor, take into consideration how long the tutor has been tutoring Spanish. As far as tutoring goes, the more experience the better. This way the tutor should have a good idea of best practices that have worked for him / her over the years.
Unlike most tutors, I create customized lessons for each student based on their unique learning style(s). I also use a textbook and workbook so students can practice between sessions. I spend at least one hour between sessions to prepare a lesson plan for the following session.
FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS: I own my own personal copies of the school textbooks and workbooks, which allows me to work with students on exactly what is being covered in class. I am also familiar with the testing styles of most of the teachers in the area so I can best prepare students to succeed on their tests. I customize my tutoring materials to meet the unique learning style of each student. I have, on occasion met with teachers and reviewed a prior test, which helps me when preparing for tutoring lessons.
The most rewarding experiences for me is when a student figures out something he has been struggling with "when a light goes on in a student's mind and he /she finally "gets it."
