Matthew and his crew did a great job repairing our retaining wall and driveway/sidewalk. He kept in touch with us consistently to confirm the dates/times his crew would be on site, explained the work clearly, and left behind a tidy jobsite. Highly recommended.

We wanted to widen our driveway and Benito's landscaping did an excellent job at a fair price. They completed the work in one day and it looks great. They even moved the sprinkler system when they did the concrete work! I would highly recommend them for your next project. I know I will call them if I need any more concrete work done.

Richard helped me design and remodel some features of my home before selling. Richard has a great eye for design and is able to construct as well. Richard and his team poured a new (black) concrete driveway, built me a new lateral cedar stained fence and painted the exterior of my home navy blue. This lead to a quick sale above asking, Thanks!

I have called 5 companies to bid my driveway. 4 were prompt to provide me with a free quote, 1 never got back to me. Of the 4 that got back to me, Ruben by far came in at the most reasonable cost and doesn't lack on the quality of the work. The other estimates were pretty expensive. One of the other company wouldn't even give me details on how the work was to be done. Ruben, however, told me in details how the driveway will be paved. He came by and quote me the same day when I contacted him and he told me to get other bids (in which I already did). He is a very honest guy and comes through with his estimate and the quality of work. He finished my driveway in a day and I am more than satisfied with Ruben and his crew's work. I would recommend Omega Concrete to everyone.

Honest, friendly, low-priced, and gets the job done right! Mr. Tui was 1 of 7 quotes I received and he gave me the lowest price by far. I had quotes as high as $6k and Mr. Tui and his family team did it for just a little over $3k. I also went with him because I sensed a legit, personable, hardworking American out of him. While they were working on my driveway, many of my neighbors stopped by and got their contact info for future work. I will definitely be reaching out to these guys when I have enough money to pave my backyard and put up a patio cover.

We were thoroughly satisfied with the concrete work done by Kris Fredrickson, Anderson Construction’s concrete contractor. Our new driveway and sidewalk look great. Kris listened to us and did his best to accommodate our wishes, going above and beyond. We would definitely hire him again and recommend him to others. And Mike Anderson stayed in constant communication w/us making sure that we were satisfied with how the project was proceeding.

Angel did an excellent job completing a concrete addition to my driveway. He arrived early and was very professional. His workmanship speaks for itself. Several people passing by observed the quality of work he did and wanted to hire him for work done to their homes. I will be contacting Angel for future projects.

Jimmy and his crew did a good job. I had asked for some excavation and gravel added to a large area along the driveway. They gave a fair price and did the job quickly. No complaints. I would hire him again for a similar job.

From start to finish Marco attended to every detail of our unique project. He helped us to custom design a driveway and patio and everything exceeded our expectations. His team was prompt, professional, and hardworking. Marco went above and beyond to make sure we would be satisfied with the results and we couldn't be happier. Of note, our neighbors saw the work in progress and hired Marco and his team the following weekend and their driveway also looks great.

California Exteriors did a brilliant job laying concrete on our driveway and backyard. Very impressed with the whole teamwork as they communicated well and professional in their dealings with us. Most of all they completed the concrete work in such a timely manner. In fact a day ahead of schedule. We would highly recommend California Exteriors Inc for their excellent work and especially to Mark Dunkelmann, Project Manager. We had such a positive dealing with him. Thank you.

I wanted to expand my driveway by 100 square feet. I talked to a few contractors and some came out and gave a bid and others blew me off. Mario was different from the rest. He set up an appointment with me for the next day and he showed up on time. He quoted me a price which I eventually accepted. We set a date for him to do the work. He called me and said he could do it a day earlier. I said great. He completed the job in two days and it looks great. His workmanship was very good. He took out 6" of dirt, put in 1-2" of gravel and pour 4-5" of concrete. He matched the expansion joints up with the existing driveway and it looks great. I would heartily recommend Mario. From my experience I would say he is honest, trustworthy with high integrity.

Mali Mali Concrete will work carefully with you through each phase of your project. They answered all of our questions and listened to our suggestions. We appreciated their insistence on doing quality work. Their first project with us was laying a walkway. We liked their work so much that we also asked them to remove and replace our patio and three car driveway. We're very pleased that they gave us their best workmanship for each of our projects. We would definitely hire them again.

We called Mark to look at some driveway work - removing old steps and adding new ones in a different location and paving over the old area as well as helping the steep incline an easier transition. He was very responsive and sensitive to what we were looking for and our schedule. We had to pause the project for almost a year due to some city issues but he was patient and ready move as soon as we got the go ahead from the city. I highly recommend his work and he has a lot of contacts for various needs.

Lio and K&M concrete removed and replaced all large concrete driveway at our home in the Oakland hills. The work was done on time, at a reasonable price, to an excellent result. Lio has also done a number of smaller jobs for us over the years, Including landscaping, carpentry, poison oak eradication, and many small handyman type jobs. In every case Lio’s work was exceptional and I would not hesitate to hire him again.

We hired Jason because he truly cares about his work. He was a pleasure to work with, maintained good communication, and did an excellent job. He even went the extra mile to put artistic touches on our driveway. The finished result is really lovely, and it completely transformed the look of our home. Even when some aspects of the project hit unexpected snags, Jason was a true pro, and figured out solutions. I recommend Jason for any concrete projects! -Jessica in Sacramento

I had Forticon replace my driveway in February of 2016 and was very happy with their work. They called me back right away, were fair with pricing and their workers were very respectful and clean while working on my house. I wish all contractors were so easy to deal with. 5 stars!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good concrete contractor?

Concrete contractors pave driveways, build foundations for homes, install retaining walls, create hardscaping for front and back yards, build concrete steps, and so much more. When searching for a driveway contractor, read reviews from previous customers and ask for referrals. Ask the contractor for photos of examples of their work that’s similar to what you want. Confirm they will get the proper permits so your driveway is up to code. Hiring a driveway contractor to install concrete can average $5-$6 per square foot, or more, depending on where you live, the slope and grade of the driveway site, and regional labor costs. For a new asphalt driveway, the cost could average from $3-5 per square foot. A standard concrete driveway of 500 square feet averaging $5-$6 per square foot would cost $2,500-$3,000 — so it pays to research someone who will do quality work. Excavation and grading work can increase your cost per square foot significantly. Ask whether the contractor provides a materials and labor warranty for their work. Some cracking of the concrete may occur as it settles, but you should talk with your contractor about any structural or aesthetic concerns you have. When hiring a concrete contractor, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to redo a concrete driveway?

Replacing or renovating a damaged or time-worn asphalt or concrete driveway can boost your curb appeal and add to your home value. If your concrete driveway is nearing 20 years or more, it may be wise to invest in an entirely new driveway, instead of redoing your current one. Asphalt driveways average 15-20 years of life, so if you start needing major repairs around the 15 year mark, weigh the pros and cons of repairing or replacing it. Request bids from two to three driveway contractors to determine pricing and project scope, and check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack. Here are some examples of average costs:

      • The national average cost to hire a concrete specialist is $2,750, but that price can vary greatly depending on the work needed to repair and resurface your concrete driveway, the square footage of the project, current costs of concrete, and regional labor rates.
      • Driveway contractors average $2-$3 per square foot to smooth and resurface your asphalt driveway.
      • Resurfacing concrete driveways averages $3-$10 per square foot. Pricing can depend on repairs needed, project size and geographic location.
      • Nationally, the average cost for resurfacing a 500-square-foot driveway ranges from $2,000 to $5,000.
      • Sealant for a concrete drive can cost $20-$80 per gallon.
      • Sealant for an asphalt drive averages 25 cents per square foot.

      What do paving contractors do?

Paving contractors can be hired to install a concrete or asphalt driveway at your home, office or property. They can also repave an asphalt or concrete driveway that has been damaged by time, weather or heavy loads. When you are looking for a driveway contractor, request quotes from at least three professionals who are in good standing and have great customer reviews. They should do a site visit and write you a bid, detailing the work involved, materials needed, approximate length of the project and estimated cost.

The site for your new driveway will determine costs and the work required for your contractor. First, the ground must be excavated to lay a clear path. This means removing any trees, bushes and stumps. Next, the driveway contractor will grade the area, making a level surface for the concrete or asphalt. To ensure proper drainage, driveway contractors should install a sub-base of compacted gravel (or similar) 4 inches-8 inches deep, depending on your soil type. Then the concrete or asphalt may be poured and smoothed over the top. Your driveway contractor should recommend an appropriate sealant for your climate and advise you on curing time.
