Introduction: I have 15+ yrs of experience doing home improvement, commercial construction, and building maintenance. I specialize in drywall but am multi-skilled across a wide range of trades. I do plumbing, minor electrical, lighting, drywall repair/installation, insulating, tile, stucco, roof repair, gardening/landscaping, fence repair, glass repair, window glazing, tv/wall mount installation, furniture assembly and general handy work. I have my own tools and work van. If something is over my head I'm honest about it and know many other tradesmen I can either refer or call upon to help me do the project. I'll never take a job unless I have experience doing it and am confident I can complete the work.
Here are examples of some common services and how long they take:
Replace thermostat, hang heavy picture, repair leaking pipe, replace a torn screen -- 1-2 hours
Drywall repair (smaller sections, not an entire room), mount shelves -- 2-3 hours
Replace window, hang a new door (includes shims, sanding, framework adjustments), woodwork repair -- 3-4 hours
Repair a wall, install heating and air registers -- 3-4 hours
Some services are quite involved and charging by the hour would make the cost prohibitive. Therefore, many handymen charge more complex projects by the job. Here are some services and prices that I charge by the job:
TV wall mount: $75
Hall light installation: $50
Change toilet valve: $75
Install bathroom faucet: $100
Install ceiling fan : $100
Install ceiling fan (second story height): $150
Install garbage disposal: $150
Install toilet: $150
Install kitchen sink: $150
My rate is $50/hr. Typically, if a job is going to take more than 4 hours I will bid the work with a set price.
