Bizie Ladie was AWESOME. I chose her because she was down to earth, explained things in simple terms, and professional. To add, after we met she gave me tips on certain things to help me navigate through the process. She was straight forward and honest and that meant the world to me. I was dealing with a sensitive/emotional situation and needed to handle paperwork due to a death in my immediate family. Vanessa made me feel at ease and I will definitely keep her in my rolodex.

Pondeva & Sohrab, APC helped my husband get his green card through our marriage. He had some problems of being here illegally for many years and they were able to tell us exactly what needed to be done. They took care of the entire case from the beginning to the end and I am happy to say my husband is now a Green Card holder! Thanks Pondeva & Sohrab,APC!

I met with Jeff a few weeks ago just for a one off meeting as I had a number of questions regarding my visa options for stating in the US (I am a British citizen). Jeff was very helpful and knowledgeable. I've called him numerous times since then with follow up questions and he is always helpful and quick to get back to me. Highly recommended.

I am working with Genie on my change of visa status and she could not have been more responsive and courteous. Her level of service is impeccable. She explained the process on a high level pretty well and responded to my numerous questions in detail. She provides clear instructions through out preparing required documents. The only feeling I have with her is that I am on good hands. She really made me feel at ease and I don't have any concerns at all. Right now, I am in the middle of a complex immigration process and I do not have any more questions to ask her. That is what you get when you work with her!

Mine was not going to be easy. I'd been living in the US since the late 90's on an expired visa and during that time managed to get myself in a little bit of trouble: DUI, DUI & Hit and Run and Assault w/a Deadly Weapon (non firearm) which I served half a year in a county jail. The assault case was from a bar fight which personally I think was overblown, but who am I to complain. I was in the wrong and that was that. I was very apprehensive (for obvious reasons) about applying for permanent residency, but something had to give. Ron was referred to me by a friend who had used his services successfully and after my first interview with him, I knew I was in good hands. His office and associates are very friendly and welcoming and Ron did a good job of being realistic with my current situation. Along the way, Ron kept me updated via email and text and remained available to talk to me even well into the night - once I remember I texted him around 9pm and he called me back to discuss my case. This type of availability is second to none. The day of the interview, Ron met my wife and I about an hour and a half prior and made sure our documents were all in order. Walking in there, I can imagine people without council are extremely nervous, but Ron did a good job keeping us focused at the task at hand and at ease. interview only lasted 20mins and we were done. Two weeks later I received the best news in the mail and its all because of the office of Ron Kamran and his wonderful staff. Appreciate the help, Sir. I am definitely recommending you to a few of my friends who would benefit from your services.

Eli Kantor has become a household name for my family. In my first encounter with him, he assisted my best friend from France in achieving his green card status for extraordinary individuals; a feat not easily accomplished in any circumstance. In my second encounter with Mr. Kantor, it was my husband, born and raised in Italy, who received his permanent resident (green) card most recently. Eli Kantor helped us achieve our dream of being a family, and all things considered, he made the process very easy. Mr. Kantor's experience takes the stress out of the process and helps to maintain a clear cut pathway to the goal. He is fabulous and the best in the business. I will continue to recommend he and his firm to anyone and everyone needing immigration/employment services. Thank you Eli Kantor for making our dream a reality. ~ The Palleggi Family

There may be a lot of lawyers out there but can you trust them all to always have your best interest? To always take the time to answer all of your questions (regardless of how basic they are)? To always promptly call back? To care about your case as much as you do? Geoffrey Bosmans has been my trusted lawyer for several incidents throughout the years and I trust him completely! I insisted that my sister call him when she needed representation in a Personal Injury case. Geoff fought valiantly to get her everything that was due and then negotiated hard to get bills down so that she could keep more of the money. I had a client refuse to pay my invoices and Geoffrey helped me fight to get them paid (including the additional expenses incurred from their non-payment). Most recently, he helped my and my new British husband go through the immigration process seamlessly and quickly. These were three different types of cases (PI, workplace and immigration) which were very stressful for me and my family. Yet, he helped alleviate all that by handling each case with the fierceness of a pit bull fighting for me and with a patient and caring "bedside manner." Plus, he is a really great person with solid ethics and integrity. I never hesitate to recommend Geoff to anyone as I know he will take excellent care of their legal needs and get the results they require.

Michael was very professional and thorough in assisting us with our green card application. We appreciated having someone as dedicated and experienced as Michael to assist us with this complicated immigration process. Michael ensured the timely submission of our applications and documentation and was available to meet in person to help us understand the process and what we could expect. We would highly recommend Michael to anyone who requires immigration assistance.

Finding considerate, affordable and fair lawyers is always a challenging task and that is why I had to write this review for Mr. Bernard Sidman. Actually, this is my first review because I am so happy with his services that I hope it will also help others in a similar situation. I decided to come to this country three years ago with my seven-year-old daughter to pursue my dream of acting. One of my friends' suggested that I contact Mr. Sidman to work on my visa application, and as we applied, to my surprise I was denied entry, even though my file was more than good. And because he believed in my case and I already had the entire paperwork ready, Mr. Sidman applied one more time without charging me an additional processing fee. Within a week, I received a letter notifying me that my O- 1 visa was approved and that I could legally work in the U.S. As a result, six months ago, as my O- 1 visa was expiring, naturally I contacted Mr. Sidman to head my case and apply for the Green Card and O- 1 extension in case I was denied Green Card. Because I needed to have the freedom to travel on short notice, I consulted with Mr. Sidman to apply for the premium processing; however, we decided that it would be best to apply with the regular processing time as this also increased my chance of getting the positive answer. It's important that I also mention that throughout this very stressful period, Mr. Sidman was always available to speak to me, answer my questions and concerns and he always did his best to raise my confidence that everything would be all right. Sure enough, in exactly three months, I received my Green Card in the mail. While I was so ecstatic to receive the great news about my Green Card, Mr. Sidman also informed me that he is giving me back the fee for applying for the O- 1 extension because it was unnecessary. I really hope that this review will help others in choosing a lawyer when it comes to any issues related to the immigration and work visas. He will not only give you positive results, but he will also make the whole process more bearable. He truly cares and protects all of his clients so that these very stressful times are not half as bad.

He also helped me when I had to contact the consulate and review my documents for my visa. I'll definitely use his services again.

And he was very patient and helpful while my husband and I made the difficult decisions on many things. He covered everything we were worried about and more. I highly recommend Deccan Law if you are in need of similar services.

This is my second time working with Jan Meyer for my estate planning needs. Jan is very knowledgable, professional and enjoyable to work with, but in addition to all these qualities she is honest and fair with her pricing. The other attorneys I contacted were more concerned about their outrageous fees. Jan really cares about her clients and wants to do a quality job. I trust Jan and highly recommend her services.

            Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does an immigration attorney do?

Immigration lawyers help their clients through all phases of the immigration process. Experts on immigration law, they are legally qualified to represent U.S. citizens, permanent residents or undocumented immigrants. Immigration lawyers also provide assistance to visitors here on student, work or travel visas, and can represent clients who may have an expired visa or who have overstayed their visa.

You can hire an immigration lawyer to assist you with petitioning for renewing a permanent resident or green card, navigating the naturalization process, submitting an employee-based petition for a work visa, filing a petition for a family member, or representing you or a loved one who is facing detention or deportation, as well as replacing, extending or changing a current visa, green card or work permit. The immigration process is highly complex, with multiple hearings, paperwork and requirements. Hiring a legal expert to represent you can help you make your best effort in the process. When researching immigration lawyers, it is very important to verify their qualifications and find a reputable attorney. Read reviews and verify that the immigration lawyer is licensed by your state before paying any fees.

How do you find a good immigration lawyer?

Research is key to finding a good immigration lawyer. The immigration process can be overwhelming and complex, so a trustworthy advocate is critical. When you have identified several eligible candidates, verify their immigration law license to protect yourself and your finances. Once you have a set of licensed immigration lawyers in mind, choose one based on these considerations:

            • Mutual respect: You want an immigration lawyer who treats you and your family with kindness and consideration. You’ll do the same for them.
            • Availability: Before hiring, note if they have responded promptly to your emails and calls. You don’t want to hire someone you have to chase around.
            • Proven success: Read former client reviews and research their success rate with cases similar to yours.
            • Transparent rates: Ask directly about what their rates are, how they bill, and what they estimate your legal fees will be. Ask if they will sign a fee agreement, and get receipts for all fees paid.
            • Verify who will handle your case: Sometimes junior lawyers work on firm cases. This is okay, as long as you have discussed it and are comfortable with it. When junior lawyers or paralegals are working on your case, ask if the hourly rate is lower.
            • Be wary of anyone who promises you specific results: No case is certain, and the immigration lawyer should be honest about what you can expect.

How much does an immigration lawyer cost?

Immigration lawyers are experts in the nuances of the highly complex United States immigration system. They help clients of all backgrounds petition for immigration status and become U.S. citizens, and can represent clients who are facing deportation or detention. Nationally, the cost people pay for immigration lawyers averages $500-$1,010. The services you need will have a huge effect on your costs. For routines cases, such as applying for a travel visa, an immigration lawyer may be able to confidently quote you a set price, while more open-ended cases may be billed at an hourly rate of $200-$500, or more, depending on the reputation and experience of the firm and lawyer. Before hiring an immigration lawyer, ask what their plan for your case is and what expected costs may be. Many immigration lawyers work from retainers, and request a set amount of money upfront from which to work. For example, a lawyer who charges $300 per hour may estimate $4,000 for a standard family-based immigration case, the common process in which a U.S. citizen petitions for permanent residency for their spouse, fiancee or family members.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
