Introduction
I am an active soloist, recitalist, chamber musician, orchestral artist, and teacher. I recently completed my Doctor of Musical Arts at USC and graduated from the Juilliard School and Paris Conservatory. I have performed in prestigious halls across the U.S (Kennedy Center in D.C., Alice Tully Hall in NYC), Europe and Asia. Since relocating to Los Angeles, I regularly perform with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and maintain an active private studio. I offer cello lessons to beginners, intermediate and advanced player; children, teenagers and adults. I am very passionate about teaching. I deeply care about accompanying each of my students to develop their full potential and help them reach their goals with cello and music. My commitment as a teacher is to provide a solid and healthy foundation of technique, musical knowledge as well as developing artistry. It is also very important for me to share with students my love for music.

Cello Lessons

I’m an undergraduate student at USC and I’ve been playing cello for more than five years, although I’ve taken lessons for less than two. I’ve worked with Juliette for about seven months, and it has been a worthwhile learning experience. I recommend Juliette as a cello instructor to anyone committed to studying the cello. Juliette works with me for one hour per week, and each lesson, we work on scales, exercises, and pieces. She varies the amount of time we spend on each depending on what she believes I need attention that week. The exercises emphasized strength and flexibility in each hand as well as bow control, shifting, and thumb position. She is very patient with my progress (and the occasional lack of it); there have been times when I struggled to develop the correct technique, rhythm, or concept for a particular piece, passage, or exercise, and she didn’t get frustrated as some other teachers do. When we work on pieces, Juliette provides many valuable insights regarding note articulation, phrasing, bowing, and more. She has helped me on reading rhythms, subdividing, training my ears, and learning music theory. Juliette is a talented performing cellist, so she is busy with her own practicing and performances, but she is flexible and accommodating. Whenever she needs to travel for a performance, she lets me know well ahead of time so we can plan around her schedule as well as mine. There have been many weeks when something unexpected came up in my schedule, and she was able to reschedule our lesson. Her flexibility helps me keep on schedule with my goals in music as well as focus on my other responsibilities when they are overwhelming. Juliette is always on time for my lessons and hasn’t canceled any without notifying me days in advance. Her prices are also reasonable given her level of education. During our lessons, Juliette often reminds me that, “You are your best teacher” because she only sees me once per week, whereas I am with myself whenever I practice. However, given the opportunity to work with an instructor, Juliette is an excellent choice.

I’ve played cello competitively until college; had three instructors before taking lessons with Juliette for a year through USC. She’s a fabulous instructor - quick to catch what my other instructors didn’t correct, has great techniques to teach, not only teaches very, very well (she has quite the repertoire and music education) but performs beautifully and impressively. I highly recommend learning from Juliette.
