FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
For teaching, I charge $60 per individual lesson at my studio, and $200 for four lessons. At-home lessons at my discretion, I charge $80 for an indivual lesson, and $300 for four. For performance, I charge $300 for either a 2-3 hour party, of background music consisting of classical, jazz and various popular styles. Both vocal and instrumental music, OR a 40-minute concert performance of such styles as may be requested. I charge $200 for live concert of my original material, if I must also provide sound equipment. If sound equipment is provided, I charge $150.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Before I do anything, we talk for a few minutes to get comfortable with each other. For students, the next step is for the student to play something for me, so that I can get a clear idea of where their technique is. This gives me great insight into what material will be best suited to start with for them, and what to focus on immediately.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I grew up in New York City. I not only studied Classical Guitar Performance at Manhattan School of Music in NYC, I played punk and rock and jazz shows at legendary venues like CBGB, the Knitting Factory, not to mention The Apollo theater in Harlem. I picked up the blues from an old lousiana blues player I knew, and used to jam with a blind harmonica player on the streets as a teenager. I also studied Jazz theory with Gary Dial, a pianist for trumpetist Red Rodney, who actually played with Charlie Parker. I played jazz on the scene in New York City, and had the opportunity to play with many great musicians, including Ornette Coleman, Keisuke Ikuma ( Oboeist for the New York Philharmonic Orchestra ), bassist Hans Glawischnig ( sideman for Chick Corea, David Sanchez ), saxophonist Andrew Farber ( Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra ) and on and on. I have had extensive experience writing songs, composing and arranging in the studio as well. I currently write and perform my own indie-type material, utilizing my acoustic guitar, my voice, and a pedal board of my own unique design.
