I was only able to take lessons with Dena for two months, but she taught me so much! She really helped me improve my voice! I had a great time and she was an amazing teacher!Aug 10, 2019VerifiedDena Murray's reply
Thank you so much Marissa. It was a real joy to teach you. I hope to continue with you if you move to Los Angeles.
I have taken voice lessons with Dena Murray myself, as well as observed her work with many other students. Dena is a wonderful teacher who combines technical mastery of her subject with natural intuition to help students overcome any obstacles. Highly recommended!Feb 6, 2015

Dena Murray is an amazing singing teacher. She is so passionate about the voice and her students. She saved me from trashing it and helped me to find my real voice and expand it. Thank you Dena, I am glad I met youFeb 16, 2015
Vocal Technique: A Guide to Finding Your Real voice is a book that I swear by to this day. I read the entire book, and consistently followed the exercises on the audio cd's. Dena's techniques vastly improved my singing ability. My level of improvement exceeded my expectations. I am beyond grateful, and would urge anyone to buy her books, and work with her one on one if possible!!Feb 7, 2015
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?I charge by the hour. I usually suggest that the student take just one lesson with me to see if we are a right fit. The fee for that lesson is at the discounted rate of $80 for the hour. If you are an online student, then the fee is paid through PayPal. In-home clients pay via PayPal or cash only. If you pay by the month (some months have 4 weeks, others have 5) the fee remains discounted at $80 per hour. If you should decide that you would like to continue but can't pay by the month, then the fee converts to my normal rate of $100 per lesson.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?I Live in West Hollywood, CA. Whether the lesson be in home or online, I always use an exercise to do a diagnostic on what we will need to work on to get what you want from taking lessons. Then I have you sing a song, which helps me get a better idea of the work we need to do because sometimes the exercise voice is far different from the singing voice and we want to get them to match. IF YOU ARE TAKING ONLINE LESSONS, I will teach you the vocal exercises, To be able to do this you will have to have a keyboard or guitar accessible to you and know what all the notes are between Middle C to High C. I will teach you how to play the exercises, which ones to play, and when, depending on your progress. I always start out with just one very easy exercise. Sometimes it may take two or three weeks to get proficient at it, but it's not a problem since I will be helping you to pluck out the notes when you make mistakes. Unfortunately, I cannot play the exercises on the keyboard while you sing along because there is a delay online. Exercises are important for the development of the voice. However, when singing songs, I've got some quick fixes up my sleeve to make singing much easier for you and to bring out the very best of your voice while also transferring what we've been working on to improve in your voice through the work we've done exercising. I make the exercises fun. They are not meant to be a chore, nor are they meant to be worked on every single day. And singing songs is always the most fun. You can sing as much as you want every day. When you finally learn how to sing the way you want to sing, you will find so much freedom.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I graduated from Ithaca College, Ithaca, NY with a Bachelor of Science in Speech
