I have used Metcalf Editorial Services for indexing two books, one a single-authored monograph, the other an edited volume. The service was excellent--Anne Metcalf is incredibly responsive, works *very* well with a deadline (especially important with indexing academic books), is super sharp and intuitive. The indexes for both books were thorough and helpful (especially difficult when you are working with an anthology with several authors). I highly recommend Metcalf Editorial Services--I will be using them for any future projects. Sarah Banet-Weiser, Sept 20, 2019

I had the pleasure to work with Metcalf Editorial Services on one book. Anne Metcalf did copyediting for several chapters of my book with outstanding professionalism and quality. As a non-native speaker, I was able to comfortably rely on her ability to rewrite sentences and propose expressions that ultimately made the reading flow smooth and precise. It was a wonderful experience working with her and I can only recommend Anne's services.

I used Metcalf Editorial Services for indexing my most recent book, and Anne was the dream indexer. She read carefully and thoroughly to come up with creative and thoughtful ways to index my book. Her index allows readers to navigate my text in essential but also inventive and creative ways, and she made me see connections and links in the text that even I, as the author, was intrigued by. She delivered the work ahead of deadline and was always very prompt in responding to me, and making the few additions I requested. Her charge was very reasonable. My book is a long and dense academic book, and looking at the index now I feel that she really got it. I am so grateful to Metcalf Editorial Services for treating my book as if it was their own. I would definitely use these services again. September 24th 2019.

I've used Metcalf Editorial Services for two books, copy editing and indexing. She is a superb writer and goes far beyond basic copyediting to rewrite sentences that capture your intent with graceful, direct prose. Her feedback is always constructive and supportive. For indexing, she takes the time to really understand what's going to be significant and useful to the reader, and her work is always letter perfect. All this for a bargain rate.

Although Anne was a pleasure to speak with and her communication and turn around for the work is very timely, I felt like the editorial work was very poor. After editing I still found many errors and for the price I paid $500, I expected a lot more than just proof reading my paper. This was for my final DNP project paper and I would suggest anyone that has this work or any scholarly work such as dissertation to not use this editor. It just wasn’t to the academic standards of that work. I submitted my work after she edited 2 times and I received a nearly failing grade due to the poor editing on the paper. How after paying $500 dollars does that even happen? I had to spend another 5 days re-editing my paper, and I passed thank god but I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. It was without a doubt a waste of the money I invested. After I was honest with Anne she seemed shocked and said she would only re-edit because this has never happened to her and I seemed disappointed. I would think for the service and money I paid this would be part of the service to do the work to your clients satisfaction. Even though I was still so upset with the final product I still paid her the full amount she requested, after I paid her- she never responded not even with a Thank you! The editing was pretty poor and I def would not use this service for future projects. I debated to write a review because Anne is a very nice person but I also have to be honest and have to write my truth for anyone trying to get their DNP papers reviewed! It is a lot of money so choose wisely.

I have worked with tenured academics on their books, PhD students on their dissertations, creative writers of all kinds, and fellow screenwriters!

  • Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

I recently created the index for a brilliant film studies text on Indian cinema for Duke University Press. I also had the opportunity to copyedit a collection of lyrical personal essays about the nightlife scene in lower Manhattan in the 80's.
