- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Cakes start at $4.00 a slice for cake and buttercream, non chocolate. Pastry cream or fruit filling, or chocolate are additionally priced. I only use organic, fair trade chocolate so that cost is higher. Wedding cakes start at $5.00 a slice. Cupcakes start at 2.50-3.50 accordingly, and sugar cookies really depend on the size and number in the order.

I'm constantly reading magazines/cookbooks for tips and tricks and new tools.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I baked a cake for my son's first birthday: a flat baseball. Easy, right? Except it sunk in the middle and I used cream cheese frosting which doesn't decorate well. I kept thinking "I can do this" and I kept making my kids' birthday cakes. Years later when I was pregnant with my 3rd child I was nesting and baked so much I had to give away muffins, coffee cakes, tarts and pies. That's when people asked me to make their cakes, and the seed of Sugardust Bakery was born.
