- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am currently an Applied Digital Media student (graphic design). I have been taking art classes since I was in the first grade and I don't ever see myself not being enrolled in one.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
My mother always handmade our Halloween costumes. By the time I was in 4th grade, I was already taking over most of the costume design myself complete with hair and makeup. When I had my old children, I decided to continue the tradition that I looked forward to every year. One year, a friend, who is a pastor from a local church, saw my daughters face paint at a carnival and asked me if I could work a booth at their harvest festival. Since I would not accept payment, they purchased my first kit as a thank you gift. Members of the church that where happy with my work began hiring me for their events and word-of-mouth spread from there.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
In the end, hire a face painter that is in it for the craft, not for the fee. Anyone can dab paint on someone's cheek, but it takes an invested artist to make someone feel like a canvas.
