Introduction: I have been teaching for a very long time and am still learning every day myself. I have a unique ability to break concepts down to the lowest common denominator and isolate difficulties right at the limits of the student's abilities.

The number of styles Ty can teach is unmatched. Ty's interpersonal skills make him a great person to see every week. I always look forward to my lessons. At my age, I need a good teacher to motivate me to learn. Ty is a master at tailoring the lesson to the students ability. He taught me several things that I needed to move to the next level. He can assess my weaknesses and and focus my attention where I need to improve. When my rudiments needed attention, Ty added challenging rudiments to my practice schedule. He always adjusted those rudiments to my abilities. When meter was my weak link, Ty added simple beats and clock sync exercises. Always, the challenges were at the right level to prevent frustration and encourage me to improve. I highly recommend Ty for drum lessons. Also, I have begun learning guitar. Again, Ty's ability to teach is proving him to be a good guitar teacher as well.

Ty started giving me drum lessons when I was 4 or 5 years old, and did so for years... It is because of Ty that I have been successful in music as a drummer, songwriter and music producer. After working around the world in the music industry with hundreds of players, I've not met a drummer who is so skilled but has the patience and feel to teach all levels, from right-left-right-left to the scariest polyrhythm you can handle... He's into the cool stuff and can teach you the crazy stuff... and his musicality is unmatched. A great instructor for old-school Rock & Roll or modern Indie, Jazz, Country, Blues, Latin/Afro-Cuban, Funk and most other genres...

Ty is a great teacher! Nice, smart, he's perfect! My first lesson I thought, "This is too good too be true". Ty is a great teacher and I seriously RECOMMEND him to any others in our area who need some lessons. Do it. You WONT REGRET IT.

I started lessons with Ty at 9 or 10... His lessons are diverse, instructive, unique, and fun! His approach to teaching is definitely a good one and it's helped me come a far way. Ty is an extremely talented drummer and I strongly recommend lessons from him, wether you're a beginner or an expert. Aside from the lessons, he's an overall cool guy. Super nice and patient, he's the best drum teacher around! Give him a call!

My son and I started taking drum lessons from Ty about a year ago. My son is a beginner, and I am returning to the drums after a 30-year break (ouch!). Ty's been great for both of us. Ty can quickly assess your level of competence and tailor the lesson to fit you -- not too hard and not too easy. I can see my son getting better all the time. Best of all, Ty is a fun and cool guy. I highly recommend Ty to anyone who wants to be a drummer!

FAQs

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

You want to find an instructor who is working on his/her craft and jobbing in the industry. Find a drum instructor that is well versed in the overall theory of music; not necessarily JUST on their particular instrument and that is comfortable playing in a variety of styles and professional situations i.e. studio, live, clubs, concerts, instruction, rock, jazz, Afro-Cuban etc.

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

It takes a LOT of commitment and dedication to play music well. The amount of business acumen playing professionally takes, is also underestimated i.e. showing up on time, dealing with people with respect, booking various projects and lessons, equipment maintenance, time management etc.
