Introduction: I approach each client as if I were part of their organization. I look at the overall needs and resources of the organization and try to suggest a strategy that fits their budget and gives them the best possible 'bang for their buck'. How did you get started doing this type of work?
I started out as a programmer many years ago, worked my way up to Director of IT at startups in San Francisco, and then moved to the Mountains in 2001 where I started QHIS.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
I recently designed and installed a campus-wide wifi system for a campground in the Sierra Mountains near Yosemite NP. This was challenging job due to the size and topology of he campus and the lack of existing network infrastructure.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Have a clear idea of your goals and the scope of the project before you start. This will help you avoid project creep and keep less scrupulous operators from selling you things you don't really need or want.
