FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I'm studying linguistics and the origins of language. I'm also studying Teaching best practices. I read on average three books a week, which includes poetry, fiction and non-fiction. Currently I'm reading "The Shadow of the Sultan" about the Sultan of Zanzibar and who was also the Sultan of Oman. It's a fascinating history of a little know person and place in the world. I've been reading about the controversy of 'who wrote Shakespeare'. I love Shakespeare's plays and poems, I've learned a number by heart. But I've been exploring many of his contemporaries of the 16th century. A rich and excellent literary mystery.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
I help my client build confidence in speaking English. I provide exercises and conversational discussions that elicit from them their ability to communicate in a clear authentic way. I'm personally involved with working with my clients who range between beginners to advanced speakers of English. I not only teach them English but I also discuss the acculturation process that their going through, even if they don't realize that it's happening to them. By understanding the culture shock that their going through, they begin to take the burden off of themselves for what they think is bad about their ability to learn. I teach calm, confidence and consistency.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Look for someone who you can feel open and honest with. I offer a free first class consultation, so that we can get to know each other and see if we will feel comfortable working together. Having tutor/teacher is like going to a doctor of attorney, it's essential that you can feel safe and supported around that person. Study another language requires that you open yourself up and expose your weakness's so that the tutor/teacher can help you face your challenges. That's a very vulnerable situation to be in. Therefore it's critical that you feel completely safe with your tutor, because then you can learn rapidly.
