Electrical and Wiring Repair
First of all, I love that within minutes of signing on with thumbtack and letting you know that I was in need of electrical work and a panel upgrade, someone from Momentum reached out to me almost instantly. He set me up with PM Nathan Lefebvre who came the next morning and gave the house system a look and from there we discussed what I needed. He promptly sent me an estimate and things progressed quickly from there. His crew arrived the following week and did the job in two days as promised. In addition to the panel upgrade, they also installed a 240 volt outlet in the garage for an upcoming g electrixa vehicle charger. These guys were efficient, and professional and have kept me in the loop through the permit inspection of their final work. My wife and I are very happy and confident that our house can now take on the load of an EV.

Electrical and Wiring Repair
While I didn't hire Momentum it was only because our cabinet installer needed know the wiring was going to work and I had to have it done Sunday to keep a installation schedule. Tom came out and quoted the job and his price was very reasonable, he was knowledgeable, and very professional. I would have hired him if I could have waited 2 more days. I give him an A+ and glad to have found someone like him for future electrical needs.

Tom is great. Extremely knowledgeable with helpful tips and advice. He was easy to get in touch with in advance and we were able to discuss my issue so he had the parts I needed. He arrived on time and was friendly, energetic and professional. He explained the issue and the resolution in easy to understand language and even took a look at some of the other household electrical items that had been bugging me. Lastly, he was very efficient with his time. I would recommend Momentum Electrical to everyone.

Electrical and Wiring Repair
Tom and his crew are experienced professionals and customer-service oriented. They are extremely courteous and reliable. The task was to replace an original 100 amp service with a 200 amp service in a single family house built in 1963. What a surprise to learn just how much work would be involved. Three professionals worked all day from around 8am until almost 8pm, and still needed to come back a couple times to finish up some grounding related work to meet inspection regulations. I had four estimates (two of them through Thumbtack) - each with slightly different requirements, but overall the same goal. I needed a bigger panel and had no way to expand to accommodate future projects (that would require 240v). The expenses ranged quite a bit, with one being substantially higher than the other three. Tom's didn't come in at the lowest, but it sounded fair, and cost alone wasn't my determining factor. You will notice Tom is genuinely decent and honest. After the work was completed, I felt like I was charged too little, and happy I didn't go with the lowest bid. It was a substantial amount of work, and I felt somewhat guilty. Some helpful advice: Don't base your decision on Yelp reviews because two of the contractors had excellent Yelp reviews - I'm talking something like 80 5* reviews, and the one with the highest quoted me nearly twice the average of the other three. He used some high-pressure tactic. Additionally, he wanted to run the conduit down the front of the house. The same contractor mentioned he recently upgraded service on the house 3 doors down - last December I believe, and it's not pretty with the pipe running down the front of the house. He explaine that would be the only way it would pass inspection. Especially since Tom was working with another very experienced professional, Fergal, I didn't feel the need to question their decision to place the conduit along the side of the house. The house just passed inspection yesterday, and now I can plan for how to use all those extra slots. I do have plans to hook up my car charger, and down the road to replace the hot tub with one that requires more voltage. Once I'm ready to schedule those project, I don't even need to think about who I will want to help out with the work, and just hope they'll be available!

Momentum was responsive and did a good job. However, they did not communicate so well post project and sent my bill to a collection agency prior to 30 days even though I was attempting to communicate with them about the bill.
Mar 27, 2018VerifiedMomentum Electrical Contractors's replyHi Shawnee. We're sorry about the confusion. It was a little unclear that the document you received wasn't a collection notice. It was a document the we're required to send out by the State of California. We've made improvements to that process so that it's not so confusing, along with improvements to our post project communication process. Thanks Shawnee.

FAQs
- How did you get started doing this type of work?My father was an electrician and I grew up in the trades. Before college, I served in the United States Navy where I attended the Naval Advanced Computer and Electrical Systems program. This gave me an excellent grounding in the industry. I completed a bachelors and even a graduate degree in business, but decided that my heart was really in being a tradesperson. All of my background and experiences contribute to a really unique product offering at Momentum Electrical Contractors. We are able to offer high-quality electrical work while running our business with cutting-edge internal processes. The result is lower cost, better customer service, and higher quality.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?I would look for someone who presents themselves professionally. People who take the time to create a strong brand are usually in the industry for the long haul. They want to protect that brand through great work and customer service. It's an indication of someone who takes their job and your work seriously. I would also, without questions, only hire a licensed, insured electrical contractor. I would also ask if my electrician was a licensed journeyman. These are two separate licenses, but both are important indicators of your tradesperson's skill level and professionalism.
- What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project? The importance of safety. It might be OK for painters or carpenters to cut corners. Even professionals like programmers and chefs can let things slide without too many consequences. However, cutting corners to speed things up in the electrical trade can be very serious. I shy away from being catastrophic, but fire and electrocution are real possibilities with shoddy electrical work. It's important to do it right even if it takes longer.
