I have only good things to say about DeNoise. They came thru when the original videographer had a family emergency, created a great band video and I have to especially applaud Jimmy the editor for his fine work. The band will be returning to DeNoise for our next video Howard P

The band played some great music, Jazz and also some danceable music. The band played Happy Birthday for my Wife and also took requests. Jessica did a great job with my stepdaughter’s wedding. She was competent and professional with the ceremony, toasts, and announcements. She has clearly been a DJ at many weddings. Her mix of music really got the party started at the reception with country, rock and pop. It was great fun!! I would highly recommend her for your next event.

Rob Bennion's band, Gold Standard, recently performed at our daughters wedding. They were incredible! I was hoping they would live up to their promotional videos but they were even better!! Every moment of their performance from the cocktail hour, to background music during the program, to the dance portion of the evening lived up to, and surpassed every expectation we had. Rob was also very easy to work with. He answered every email quickly and worked closely with our wedding planner to make sure the evening was the memorable event we wanted it to be. I would highly recommend Rob and Gold Standard for any event you might be planning. You won't be dissapointed!

Seth is a terrific teacher for both adults and children. Both of my children learn from Seth, one in a personal setting and the other in a band setting and both are thriving and loving playing their instruments. I am taking an adult rock band workshop under Seth's tutelage, and I've never had more fun playing music in my entire life. I look forward to each week's jam session.

I am a bass player who has always played guitar here and there but nothing too serious, and about a year ago decided I really want to know the fundשmentals of guitar. A friend recommended Jacob Light, whom I've heard play before in local bands, and I decided to take the chance. I wasn't dissapointed to say the least. Jacob is a really down to earth guy who immediately understood my musical style and focused mainly on what I wanted to know, unlike other teachers I've had experience with. Even so, he knew what subjects to insist I learn, like improvisation. and scales. all this was done in a friendly, calm, cool yet persistent atmosphere which is just the right blend for learning, in my opinion.Soon enough I started feeling I really understand guitar, and this new kno'ledge even helped me with my bass guitar playing. Ive been taking guitar lessons with Jacon for 6 months and the only downdise I can think of is the fact he moved to California, otherwise I would have still take lessons from him, without a doubt.

Martan has been doing a wonderful job teaching my teenage son jazz piano for the past few years. Martan has a proven approach starting at the basics and advancing to very sophisticated techniques at a pace the student can handle. The techniques my son is learning are also directly applicable to playing jazz on other instruments such as the saxophone that my son also plays in his school band.

You can stop looking for a wedding band! Because you just found it. Retro Jukebox Band is the best. We first saw Retro Jukebox Band at my best friends wedding and knew they were going to be the band for our wedding. They were spectacular from booking them to them performing! Our dance floor was packed all night and people are still talking about the band and how much fun they had!! We have been to a few weddings with live bands and none of the bands were on the level of Retro Jukebox Band. They have fair prices, quality music, amazing vocals and very flexible with many options of music to choose from. They truly were the highlight of our day. Hire them you will be extremely happy with them.

Natalie has been fantastic to work with! Her instruction through exercises, general tips/suggestions, and specific ideas when working on a particular song has all been stellar and on point throughout my work with her. I feel like I have improved dramatically over the course of our lessons, and my band members have made several comments about my improvement as well. She has an uncanny knack for knowing what I am doing with my breath, diaphragm, throat, mouth, etc., and being able to suggest just the right adjustments to make things sound better and more comfortable to sing. Natalie is a wonderful person, too, very encouraging, supportive, and respectful. I highly, highly recommend her!!

We’re been big fans of Paula for years! And, having attended as many concerts and shows as we could, she was our choice to sing at our wedding July 7, 2018 She is easy to work with, her players are phenomenal, and the show she puts on is second to none. We love the classics- jazz, blues, soul, R&B, even FUNK! And it is amazing that Paula can deliver this with only 3 musicians and herself. It’s a small ensemble that really packs a wallop. Everyone was dancing, even my grandmother! Yet, the dinner music was the perfect level for conversation. Her voice is second to none, it’s like having Etta James sing at your wedding. Her musicians are the same guys we’ve seen on stage with Greg Allman, Van Morrison and Boz Scaggs. (Amazing we had them at our wedding!). Paula learned a special song “ I believe in you and me” for our ceremony and Whitney herself could not have sung it any better. Paula even acted as emcee to make sure the scheduled events flowed smoothly from the cake cutting to toasts, the garter toss and first dance. She took the stress of knowing we had a great band to set the tone of our wedding off my shoulders. I highly recommend her!

The GTS Band has been my favorite for years, so I was thrilled when I was asked to contract with them for a high school reunion. Rick was great and easy to work with. We placed the band centrally in the room to give the lead singer an opportunity to work the room as he performed--which he does so well. As always, the music was fantastic!

Isaac and the Haze is a fantastic dance band! They were really the perfect entertainment for last two parties of about 60 people each. We hired them because some of our co-workers had heard them play at the Crow's Nest in Santa Cruz. The guys arrived about an hour early to set up their sound equipment and were ready to play right on time. Isaac, the lead singer, plays a keytar and electric cello. He has a great voice, with a big range of emotion, and really engaged the audience in between songs. The lead and back-up vocals were great and consistently held up against the big beat of the band. Other band members played lead guitar, bass, drums, and keyboard. I was worried that their 5-member band would overpower the relatively small venue, but the sound levels were perfect, and they didn’t blast us to the back of the room. There were 20 or more people dancing all the time, including young kids and a grandma in her 90's. We really liked the numbers they performed, which were mostly covers of R&B music from the 2000's, like Bruno Mars’ 24K Magic, DNCE’s Cake By The Ocean, Maroon 5’s Moves Like Jaggar, and works by Justin Timberlake. You could tell the band members were all having a good time too and enjoyed what they were doing. Great music! Great entertainment!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

    • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
    • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
    • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.
