Introduction: This is a full-service karate studio. We offer karate for pre-schoolers, children, and adults. Our women's self defense program empowers female tweens and adults. We are the only studio in Pasadena that has a certified teacher and Ph.D working with individuals who have adaptive and special needs. We offer private lessons and tailor our program to the individual, instead of the individual suiting us Karate is incredibly empowering to everyone who does it. It can save your life!

Learning American Kenpo Karate under Rick Jeffcoat has been a complete experience. Rick Jeffcoat is adept at teaching students of many ages, backgrounds, and learning types. I find myself at awe that in one minute he can dissect and simplify techniques that I am struggling with and then the next minute challenge and enrich techniques that I thought I had felt comfortable with. He is adept at both teaching by action and by words. Best of all, I find his "what if" scenarios valuable to bring practicality to the art. The quality of life changes he's been making to the studio has also made it feel like a second home. The place is kept clean and comfortable.

We've been taking karate at American Kenpo Karate in both group and private class for two years. As an educator who works with both kids and young adults, I appreciate their care and professionalism. I know my daughter is safe with her instructors. She has thrived under their study and has earned her belts through hard work and well executed katas. In addition Kenpo is the best form of self defense for karate. The classes teach discipline, excellent form and responsibility. I would look here before considering anywhere else. They are a step above the rest!

My son started at American Kenpo Karate approx. 15 mo. ago and he loves it! He enjoys his group instructor and his private instructor. He looks forward to his days at karate. Thanks Kenpo staff!

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Yes, I am participate in judging at tournaments and am currently writing a series of book and training manuals. I also run an instructor training program out of my school.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
Mr. Jeffcoat's grew up studying many martial arts as a child in New York. However, it wasn't until he was a young adult in California that he began learning American Kenpo Karate. His first kenpo karate teachers were John Corrigan and Tony Martin, from Ed Parker's West Los Angeles studio. When Rick became a more advanced belt, he studied with Larry Tatum and Ed Parker.
