I have been taking guitar lessons from Kimberly via Skype for about six years. I really like her teaching style which is systematic and focused. She tailors her lessons to my goals and time. Her teaching method is to help you gain insight and skill through patient practice of gradually changing exercises. She doesn't snow you with theory, but presents it to you in digestible amounts just when it will make sense. She welcomes questions and I always learn from our discussions. She has led me to learn techniques on the guitar that I was absolutely sure I could never learn. For something to seem impossible at the start, to seem possible a week later and to be routine a month later is amazingly uplifting. Kimberly's background was first a life of teaching herself and playing gigs with all kinds of bands in all kinds of places. She has also deepened and strengthened her knowledge by gaining academic degrees in guitar and jazz and also by studying under masters. This gives her an incredibly deep understanding of learning and teaching music, an immense skill in playing guitar, and an appreciation for the challenges of playing with other people. I especially love her continued enthusiasm for guitar and that she really enjoys teaching. I have found in Kimberly the best of teachers and highly recommend her without reservation.

We hired Tyler for my sister's birthday party. He was extremely professional throughout the entire process... from the first time we contacted him to the end of the actual event. He responded immediately to any of my queries via text or email. The contract and payment process was very straightforward and easy. The set up was a breeze because he provides everything. He encouraged us to be involved in choosing the music and asked for direction on our desired "mood" for the party. He was very keen on making our evening exactly how we envisioned it!! He showed up on time. He wore a suit which added a touch of class. Most importantly, his sax playing was simply beautiful. We are music lovers and some of our children are professional musicians so I think we are pretty good judges when it comes to musical ability. Tyler was top notch!! Thanks to Tyler, our night turned out exactly how we envisioned it!! Only thing disappointing was that I had to be a host. I would have preferred to just sit and listen!! Thank you, thank you Tyler! Hope to be able to hire you again sometime soon.

Taylor created a very professional, radio ready song for me. He works extremely fast and knows how to construct modern music that sounds like he hired a full band. The mix was fantastic music and singer alike. I highly recommend Taylor for your project.

WOW! What an amazing band! We were absolutely blown away by these amazing musicians it is clear that they are all at the top of the field. We chose to book the 6 Piece with both male and female singers and boy! can they really really SING. They sounded amazing, looked fresh and fun and had such energy every single person at our wedding was on there feet even my dad who is 83. We had an absolute blast and everyone could not stopped raving about the band they asked if we stole them from American Idol!!!! I can tell you from the moment we were in contact they were communicative professional and handled everything, even thinking of things we haven't even thought of yet like lighting and sound requirements. The MC was charismatic, funny and charming and was able to tell our story with such class that my wife and I were in tears. We looked around for 6 months before choosing a band most great wedding bands were way way out of the budget, they were reasonably priced and for what you get which is one of the best bands i've ever seen at a wedding I actually think we should have been paying double or more like some of the bands we first looked at that weren't even as good. So thats my rant. Amazing. Blown Away. Memories for a lifetime. They do book up early were lucky we had our wedding on a Sunday so it wasn't a problem. If it was on Saturday we may not have been as lucky!

My son started formal drum lessons with Steve two and a half years ago. Steve set the bar on professionalism, flexibility, communication, and has the patience to teach music to younger kids. My son went from a kid banging on a toy drum, to a musician that could play drum set rhythms in an elementary school jazz band. We've had other instructors since Steve left the Los Alamitos area but none of them compared to his high level of attributes listed earlier.

I have had the pleasure of working with Skip Johnson on numerous high level corporate events, private events and VIP weddings over the last 16 years. Skip is a consummate professional - onstage and off. He is an extremely talented musician, and whether he's performing solo or with his band (who are also amazing musicians!), has always exceeded my client's expectations. Skip routinely goes above and beyond to make each event a huge success. Once my clients have worked with him, they request him again and again. Skip is that rare combination of talented artist and astute businessman, who understands the importance of the details and treats every event, big or small, as if it's the most important one he's ever done. I absolutely love working with him and would highly recommend him!

We hired Ken and his band for my grandmother's 83rd backyard BBQ. When I tell you everyone, even or neighbors were inquiring about where I found them...it was insane. They were awesome and so pleasant. My grandmother is a jazz and blues guru so this literally made her day. They played upbeat music and some very soothing jazz as well. Everyone in the band is amazingly talented. If you are looking for QUALITY and TALENT, Ken and his band are who you need to hire. Thank you so much guys! We are literally planning on when to hire you next, making up an event to throw. Someone said...let's just have a brunch and hire them (lol). Oh, not to mention my 1 year old with the moves like jagger enjoyed boogying to this wonderful band. Again, thank you so much Ken...you and that sax were amazing! ☺️

You were great, and you kept the young and old hopping. They all didn't want the music to end. You are a terrific DJ and MC." - Marlene Silva, grandmother of the bride ===================================== ALSO - You are invited to a '70s disco show and party with The Bootie Shakers, a rocking '70s disco dance band! Come "boogie down!" The Bootie Shakers are among the hottest '70s disco bands around. The band is perfect for parties, weddings, clubs, fairs, festivals and a great time, anytime! Everyone is talking about The Bootie Shakers! Founded in the spring of '96 in North Hollywood, California, guitarist Paul Maselli (former drummer of Dread Zeppelin) wanted to bring you a live '70s tribute dance band that rocks with strong audience interaction. The Bootie Shakers are fast becoming known as the best '70s era disco dance band from California, and now also on The east coast in Florida. They will travel to your event. Maselli has exchanged his drumming and rhythm talents to become the hard-driving guitarist for this rocking '70s disco band. To see and hear The Bootie Shakers perform live is to transport oneself back in time twenty years to the heyday of the disco dance era when music was fun, sexy and always a fantastically entertaining party. To attend a Bootie Shakers show is to have the time of your life. It's hard to believe that all this sound is generated from only four musicians on stage covering all musical and vocal parts and playing authentic '70s music from an era where many bands at that time had ten or more players. Seeing and hearing is believing and awe inspiring. The Bootie Shakers are the last words in live '70s disco dance entertainment! Remember songs such as LaFreak, Boogieman, Night Fever, YMCA, Ladie's Night, We Are Family, You Should Be Dancing, Boogie Oogie Oogie, Superfreak, Celebration, Get Down Tonight, Play That Funky Music, That's The Way, Disco Inferno, Good Times, Funkytown, Dazz, Shake Your Bootie, Brick House, Car Wash, Stayin' Alive, and more! Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

      • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
      • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
      • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
