From the initial phone call and in-person consult, John had a very calm, nonjudgmental demeanor. I talked to a few other attorneys prior to deciding to work with John. Bankruptcy is a difficult, embarrassing, and sometimes confusing process. As a single practitioner and small business owner, John gives his clients the personalized attention that I think is needed for bankruptcy. He was readily available via phone, email, and even in-person meetings to explain the process and set expectations, answer any questions, and alleviate our concerns. He even helped with slightly unrelated financial/legal issues (tenant/landlord issues, rental security deposit questions, etc.) Other larger bankruptcy firms seemed to not care so much about the individuals they were serving and often advertised the bigger, well-known attorneys to reel clients in but actually had less experienced attorneys or even paralegals/interns do the majority of work on their cases. Some firms don't even have an attorney attend the bankruptcy hearing with you, which I would imagine to be nerve-wracking for the client. You want to make sure the paperwork is completed and filed correctly, you are well-prepared for your hearing, and that the process runs seamlessly, so you can have a quicker path to a fresh financial start. I would not have felt as confident about the outcome if I were to go through this process alone or have a junior level attorney or intern work on my case. John was great to work with, and I would highly recommend him to anyone considering making such a tough decision. It is a very impactful decision, so while there are bankruptcy attorneys available for a fraction of the cost, I think it is worth the larger investment to have a caring, accessible, and experienced attorney like John on your side to ensure a higher chance of having a positive outcome and seamless process to restarting your financial future. We began the process in December, attended our hearing in January, and received notification of our discharge in March. We are already working to rebuild our credit, which John also provided advice on how to best go about the post-bankruptcy rebuild. Thank you, John!

We are not done yet, but so far, the experience has been wonderful. The attorneys are extremely knowledgeable and experienced in Bankruptcy Laws. They made it easy for me to come in and their professionalism was very much appreciated. The support staff was friendly and professional, as well. The attorneys are available by phone, at all times and I found that to be incredibly helpful during a minor "moment of worry" on a Saturday night. I would recommend Lifeline Legal to anyone who needs help.

All around great experience. Expensive lawyers will do everything for you and charge you crazy numbers. If you’re prepared to do the work, this is an excellent option instead of a divorce attorney. Lisa’s many years of experience will guide you through the pitfalls of processing your divorce. I ask a lot of questions and can be a demanding client. When Lisa didn’t have an answer, which was rare, she got the information to me expeditiously. I interviewed several people before choosing Lisa. Look no further for your divorce processing needs.

First I would like to say Thank you so very much for a superb job done. So I was in a panic looking for a lawyer who I could trust to handle a difficult case. A friend of mine had had some previous trouble and still had time hanging over his head unfortunately my friend ran into some more trouble and ended up back in jail with a flew of charges and his previous situation to deal with again as well. We hired an attorney but all he was interested in was the money. My gut told me to look for another attorney so I searched on line for San Diegos top 10 attorneys and came across Mr. Flores I read his reviews and called him up. He was honest detailed and reassured me that I would never be left wondering what was going on during the case. He was very reasonable with his fees and wasnt there to drain our pockets but to make sure my friend got the best deal out of his difficult situation. Mr. Flores takes time for his clients and is very personable. He is passionate about his work and doesnt settle for anything. Mr. Flores dedicates himself to his job and making sure his clients are happy with the results. I take my hat off to Mr. Flores and would recommend his services to anyone whos in need of outstanding counsel. I give him a 5 star rating. Again Thank you Mr. Flores for awesome representation. My friend is a free happy man.

I am a drug and alcohol counselor and treat literally hundreds of people dealing with DUI's every year. Rick is by far the best DUI attorney I have dealt with in California regarding DUI issues. Here is why: -He wins more DMV cases than any lawyer I have ever heard of. Remember you have TWO hearings whenever you get arrested and charged with a DUI. A court hearing and a DMV hearing. The DMV comes first usually and they give you TEN DAYS to even request a hearing or they will AUTOMATICALLY suspend your license and you are screwed. -He answers emails and other communication immediately...often out of business hours. He is the most responsive lawyer I have ever dealt with. -He is a SHARK in the courtroom (where he needs to be) but a VERY KIND HUMAN being with his clients. Rick is one of those rare attorneys who actually understands and cares that his clients are going through a lot of terror and turmoil. He is very compassionate and understanding and often acts as a sort of therapist (or "nice father figure" at least) as well as a Laywer when you are up a creek with a DUI. -He KNOWS the law. Rick has WORKED EXTENSIVELY on both sides of the DUI SYSTEM and understands the prosecutors' role as well as the defending attorneys' role. This is invaluable when it comes to choosing a good DUI attorney. -HE IS HONEST. He will tell you if your case is even slightly winnable or not. He will refer you if you need more of a specialist (a jury trial specialist for example) and is less interested in money than he is in really helping you out. -He NEVER gives up. -I have had more clients happy with him than any other attorney. I refer all of my clients to him and they all are happy. We need more attourneys like him in California. A DUI is a horrible terrible thing to get and CA does not screw around. They will ruin your career, life, driving privikages and bank account. DO NOT believe the people that say it's a waste of money to hire a DUI Laywer. If you were unfairly handled by law endorsement or your case has holes in that help you, Rick will find them and use them to help you in your favor. I can't say enough good about him.

My husband and I hired Mr Saman as our immigration attorney to assist us during our immigration journey in the United States, as I am from Italy, and my husband is an American citizen. Not only was Saman available at all times, and answered all the numerous questions we had, he also helped us consider a multitude of options for my husband and I to be together in order to avoid long-distance relationships. What made Saman impeccable at his work was the fact that he could really relate to each and all concerns we had; he was extremely familiar with visa procedures and green card applications, and his positive attitude helped us become acquainted with immigration law, which was a world unknown to us. During my green card application process, he explained every step of the way in such simple words that it was hard not to do things properly. Saman was extremely reliable, precise, and very pleasant to deal with. My green card application was such an easy process, especially considering what I had heard about it until then. I (along with my husband) am so grateful that Saman has been part of our journey, and even now that I have been a permanent resident for a year, we are still in contact, and he is always so prompt to offer help, and provide answers. We have no hesitation in recommending his legal services. He is excellent, passionate about what he does, and most importantly he wears his heart on his sleeves, which undoubtedly is a quality that we truly appreciate. Thanks so very much Saman.

Never did I think I would be in the situation where I needed to hire an attorney after being in a car accident. Unfortunately this past February I was hit by a drunk driver and had serious injuries to my shoulder and leg. My family contacted Chris and went through the whole consultation process within an hour. Thank you so much for everything you and your staff have done for me. I love the weekly case updates your office would give me until my case was settled. Great people, great work.

The Law Office of Heather Cullen provided the best legal representation I could ask for in my divorce case. Heather Cullen, Jillian Duggan-Herd and Amanda Naples all provided legal help on my case and made me feel total protection (like a TV legal team). Jillian was available for me non-stop for the entire year. My divorce is now complete; but, I am keeping Jill and Heather as my attorneys so that I feel safe until my kids are 18 and I don’t have to worry about being alone if I ever have custody issues. Luckily, if I need any legal help I won’t have to travel far now that the Riverside firm has an office in Temecula also. Hands down best attorneys in Riverside County!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good real estate lawyer?

If buying or selling property feels overwhelming and the thought of finding a good real estate lawyer seems daunting, you’re in luck. There are some simple steps to follow for finding a trustworthy, affordable real estate lawyer to help with your property and legal needs.

  • Determine what kind of real estate lawyer you need. Many states require a real estate attorney to handle sale closing documents. For more complex matters such as a real estate deal gone awry or foreclosure, you’ll want to find an attorney who has successfully handled cases like yours.
  • Look for online reviews of real estate lawyers in your area. Verify that they have proven experience closing or winning cases like yours and that they are in good standing with the state bar association.
  • Choose two or three lawyers to interview. Many offer a free consultation to learn about your case and provide information about rates. For standard real estate closing services, in-depth interviewing might not be necessary.
  • Ask about their rates and whether they charge by the hour or provide services for a flat fee. Ask whether a retainer is required, and what the total bill should be for a case like yours.
  • Ask for a write-up of the services that will be covered by the projected costs.
  • Make sure you like the real estate agent and they treat you with respect. Confirm whether they or another person will be working on your case and make sure you’re comfortable with all members of their team.
  • Pay the retainer and hire your lawyer.

What does an immigration attorney do?

Immigration lawyers help their clients through all phases of the immigration process. Experts on immigration law, they are legally qualified to represent U.S. citizens, permanent residents or undocumented immigrants. Immigration lawyers also provide assistance to visitors here on student, work or travel visas, and can represent clients who may have an expired visa or who have overstayed their visa.

You can hire an immigration lawyer to assist you with petitioning for renewing a permanent resident or green card, navigating the naturalization process, submitting an employee-based petition for a work visa, filing a petition for a family member, or representing you or a loved one who is facing detention or deportation, as well as replacing, extending or changing a current visa, green card or work permit. The immigration process is highly complex, with multiple hearings, paperwork and requirements. Hiring a legal expert to represent you can help you make your best effort in the process. When researching immigration lawyers, it is very important to verify their qualifications and find a reputable attorney. Read reviews and verify that the immigration lawyer is licensed by your state before paying any fees.

What is a personal injury lawyer?

A personal injury lawyer fights on your behalf if you’ve been injured physically, psychologically, economically or in reputation. This injury may be the result of neglect or malicious intent of another person, or it could be at the hands of a business, government or other entity. Personal injury lawyers specialize in tort law, which is the law of civil wrongs like car accidents, company wrongdoing, unlawful imprisonment and more.

To become qualified to be a personal injury lawyer in the United States, a person must earn a bachelor’s degree, followed by a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from a law school. Most states then require the person to pass the bar exam to become licensed to practice law. Unlike many attorneys who require a retainer, personal injury lawyers often work on contingency fees. This means that in lieu of payment upfront, they receive an agreed-upon percentage of the settlement in case of a win.

What does a real estate lawyer do?

A real estate lawyer represents their client’s best interest in all matters related to the sale, purchase and ownership of real estate. They are experts in real estate law. In states that require a real estate lawyer to close home sales, the lawyer must review and finalize all documents before the deal can be legally completed. Real estate lawyers also help clients legally protect their rights when entering, exiting or renegotiating a real estate deal. You can hire a real estate lawyer as an individual or as a business. A real estate lawyer can help with negotiation, addressing mortgage fraud, managing foreclosures and bankruptcy, transfers of titles and deeds, property ownership disputes, zoning issues, creating a co-ownership contract for joint purchase of a property, and much more. Real estate lawyers can also protect you from issues that result when a known problem was not properly disclosed by the previous owner. Overall, real estate lawyers are an added cost when it comes to buying and selling property, but they also ensure your best interests are met, and that you and the people you are doing business with comply with the law.

What kind of lawyer does wills?

No one likes talking about death, but it’s better than leaving your children or siblings to sort out your estate. A clearly planned will can make the time of mourning easier for everyone. An estate attorney will develop a legal will, create trusts on your behalf, and ensure the proper execution of your estate after you pass away.

Family attorneys and estate attorneys, also called probate and wills attorneys, can each prepare wills. The type of lawyer best suited to prepare your will depends on your situation. Most family attorneys provide services to prepare basic wills, including bequeathing property and personal items to family or naming a guardian for minor children. However, estate attorneys specialize in preparing wills in more complex situations. Consider hiring an estate attorney if you:

  • Have a large number of assets, especially those subject to estate taxes
  • Want to create a trust, such as allowing a spouse to live in your home until he or she dies and then leaving it to your children, or set up long-term care for a beneficiary
  • Have an ownership stake in a business
  • Expect someone to contest your will
  • Want to disinherit your spouse
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
