- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been in ongoing formal and informal studies in yoga, ayurveda and the vedic tradition for 13 years. While some years have included monthly professional trainings and study courses, other years include travel to India or a retreat and study at an Ashram. Some of my various advanced trainings and certifications beyond my basic 650 hours now total 1,500 hours in yoga such as prenatal yoga, deeper yoga, teaching workshops, teaching teachers, and yoga therapy. Additional certifications include ongoing studies in Ayurveda beyond my 2.5 year formal study, such as a weekend workshops in women's health and digestive health. I spent several years studying vedic hand analysis, vedic astrolgoy and vedic design to support my work and my students. You can see all of my certifications in this tradition on the home page of my website, www.yogawithkaya.com
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
Having discovered meditation and eastern philosophy in college, I took my first hatha yoga class after graduation and thought "I am going to teach this". I spent the next year attending every possible yoga class (sometimes 3 a day) in lots of different styles with different teachers and cultivating a home practice. I began researching yoga teacher training programs and found many of them to be superficial, short, and incomplete. Then I discovered Svaroopa yoga... the style was very different for me, but I found it made me feel amazing. When I researched the teacher training it was by far the most comprehensive, and in-depth, with the greatest potential for long-term advanced study, so I began my training immediately.
