When applying for a building permit we were faced with what seemed like insurmountable requirements by the building planning division of the city of El Cajon. We made numerous attempts to meet their demands and were turned back with new requirements each time. A friend suggested we hire either an architect or a draftsman in order to comply. Out of desperation we hired Lance Stratton of Studio Stratton Inc. We couldn’t have made a better decision. He responded promptly and with his knowledge and professionalism he quickly gained our confidence. He knew exactly what was needed to meet building code and how to put it all down on paper to satisfy even the most fastidious civil servant. Lance gathered all the information he needed and promised a 1st draft within a few days. Good to his word, he had the first draft done in a couple of days. We sat down together and went over it in detail to make sure nothing was left out. A few days later, he came over with the city required number of copies of a very professional set of plans. We went through them together as a final check and they were ready to turn in. Lance assured us everything was going to be fine and that his job wasn’t done until the plans were approved and a building permit was issued. As impressive as the professionalism of his work is, just as important, he became a partner in the process. While waiting for the city to make it’s decision he would call to check the status and assure us that he was ready in case anything more was needed. To my great relief, the city approved the plans without a single addition or correction. If you are looking for drafting services and you want a true professional who will go the extra mile and treat you like a valued customer, Lance Stratton is your guy.May 2, 2017VerifiedStudio Stratton Inc.'s reply

I had a wonderful experience working with Lance. Lance kept his promise to finish the bathroom design work and get the city permit on time as he had promised earlier. He was professional, responsive, punctual, and competitive in price. I strongly recommend Lance for any design work. Thanks Lance.Dec 11, 2018Verified

Thank you Martha! I am really looking forward to seeing the completed project.
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?Typically I charge by the sq.ft. for new construction, but with remodels and room additions, I have to price it on a case by case basis.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer? The process varies depending on the need, but we always start out with a tel con and a site visit so that I can understand what is needed. Typically I work in two phases: 1) Design 2) working drawings. In the design phase we help our customer figure out what they want, and in the working drawings phase we figure out the most cost effective way to put it together. That's the readers digest version...
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I grew up in a contractors home. Both my father and my older brother ran successful general contracting businesses and I began doing design work for them when I was 14 years old. I took classes through the Regional Occupational Program and was certified as a draftsman before I graduated high school. At that point I went to work in an architects office. I apprenticed under some of San Diego's finest residential architects including Jim Geldert, Don Edson, and Trip Bennett. I have provided drawings for over 500 new homes, and thousands of additions and remodeling projects in the San Diego area over the past 30 years.
